Blue Ivy Carter just made a subtle cameo at the 94th Academy Awards.
Beyoncé included her 10-year-old daughter during her opening performance at the 2022 ceremony, for which she sang her Oscar-nominated song, "Be Alive," from the critically acclaimed biopic about Venus and Serena Williams' father, King Richard. Instead of taking the stage at the Dolby Theatre, the production took place at a tennis court in Compton, California, paying homage to the Williams sisters' roots.
Fans spotted Blue, wearing narrow shades and a silver necklace, among the litany of backup performers, who were all wearing the same shade of neon tennis yellow.
Will Smith, who stars as the Williams patriarch and is also nominated tonight for Best Actor, previously explained the sentimental meaning behind "Be Alive" in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
According to Smith, Beyoncé reached out to collaborate after seeing a screening of the film.
"The marriage of a movie and a song is a kind of magic that's unmatched in entertainment," he told the outlet. "I was so happy when Beyoncé called."
Though she has yet to reveal details about when fans can expect a new album, she teased some details for Harper's BAZAAR's September 2021 cover story.
"I've been in the studio for a year and a half," the Grammy-winning singer said. "Sometimes it takes a year for me to personally search through thousands of sounds to find just the right kick or snare. One chorus can have up to 200 stacked harmonies."
