It’s easy to get caught up in the drudgery of dressing for your nine to five if you, like me, are tired of button-downs, slacks, and loafers. Luckily, we have Tracee Ellis Ross to inspire us with a new dose of fresh business-ready style.

On Wednesday, the star was spotted wearing two playful takes on grown-up workwear while promoting the seventh season of Black Mirror in New York City. In both instances, Ross subverted standard business attire by playing with proportions and silhouettes—an evergreen reminder that dressing up for the boardroom doesn’t have to bore you.

For her first outing, Ross wore an oversized white button-down, fitted with sleeves that ran just below her elbow. She paired the top with a gray skirt featuring asymmetrical tiers of pleats; the top tier resembled your average midi skirt, while the second tier descended towards the floor as a one-leg pant design. She completed the look with a black Bottega Veneta woven handbag, black leather pumps, and chunky mixed-metal hoop earrings.

Later, she ventured out into the city dressed in another deliciously oversized ensemble. This time, the look included a blood orange blouse with a curved leather collar and rounded balloon sleeves, paired with a flowing white midi skirt. Ross finished off the look with the same shoes and accessories that she wore earlier in the day.

Ross previously opened up about her personal style philosophy during an appearance on Harper’s Bazaar’s podcast, The Good Buy.

“I think clothing is how we wear our insides on the outside, so it’s a form of creative expression,” she said. “It started as armor for me, and now it’s just a form of creative expression.”
