Shakira always knows how to give a performance to remember.
The Colombian superstar made her grand return to the Grammys stage at Los Angeles's Crypto.com Arena on Sunday night. While the singer has remained a mainstay at the Latin Grammys over the years, tonight's performance marked her first time back onstage at the US ceremony in 15 years. For context, the last time she performed was alongside Wyclef Jean for her global hit "Hips Don't Lie" in 2007.
For the evening, the singer wore a shimmering, sheer gold set as she opened her performance with her 1998 hit "Ojos Así" followed by her 2024 smash single (and bonafide breakup anthem) “BZRP Music Session #53,”. To spice up the song for the special night, Shakira opted to begin the song as a quasi-hymn with an impressive gospel choir behind her before breaking into the high energy choreography she's known for her.
Shakira's Grammys comeback performance wasn't the only moment worth celebrating on Sunday. Earlier in the evening, the singer won the award for Best Latin Pop album which was awarded to her by her fellow Latin superstar and former Super Bowl Halftime performance partner, Jennifer Lopez. Today, marks the five year anniversary of the pair's show-stopping halftime performance as well as Shakira's 48th birthday, too. During her acceptance speech for Best Latin Pop Album, the star dedicated her award to immigrants in the United States, a timely recognition considering the current Presidential administration's attack on immigrants within the country right now.
“I want to dedicate this award to all my immigrant brothers and sisters in this country," she said onstage. “You are loved. You are worth it and I will always fight with you.”
