The Walking Dead's Jeffrey Dean Morgan, otherwise known as everyone's favorite bad guy Negan, has opened up about the backlash the show has faced over its extensive graphic violence.
Appearing on TODAY, the actor revealed that he doesn't think the show can win "either way" on the violence front - after it was originally criticized for not being gory enough (if you can believe that).
"People were upset that I didn't bash someone's head in," he said. "We came back this year and bashed some heads in, and suddenly it was too much. There's not even a happy medium there."
Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't, at least Jeffrey is having fun playing one of TV's most hated villains. Yep, you heard us - he's having fun.
"This character in particular, he kind of takes such glee and the world is his stage, and it's a very fun and challenging character to play," he admitted.
"Bringing him to life, there's a certain amount of glee you have to bring to this guy... I'm certainly having fun doing it."
The Walking Dead's season 7 premiere sparked controversy with its violent scenes, but those who work on the show were more than willing to defend it.
Michael Cudlitz (Abraham, RIP) previously toldDigital Spy that he felt the gore in the episode was justified, but that he expected the backlash.
