Tory Burch held her Fall runway in the sky, at Hudson Commons, in an empty commercial space with soaring, sparkling after-dark Manhattan views. The setting was all a part of a larger narrative, a love letter to the women of New York — on Valentine’s Day no less.

“The Fall/Winter 2022 collection started with women in New York City. Unique characters who catch our eye in fleeting snapshots." Burch said, “We explored this through the lens of shape, geometry, color and convertibility.”

Of course, New York women are a complex study and can hardly be put in a box. She’s leather trousers and sporty tops, she’s classic plaid, neon green, and midi skirts. Of course she’s a black leather blazer and a black wool coat. She’s preppy and athletic, reserved and bold.

The collection is all about the contrast, not unlike women themselves, “tailored and deconstructed, opulent and spare, surrealist and sporty. The spirit of American sportswear is the through line connecting our seasons,” Burch continues. The collection ended with a series of color-blocked turtleneck maxi dresses, cinched with oversized waist belts. A foretelling of who some New York women will be next season.
