Is there anything worse than spending hours in a pair of stilettos or leather flats that leave your feet throbbing and blistered? Investing in a pair of supportive sneakers can not only enhance your everyday comfort but also actually improve your overall health.

"Having the right footwear if you’re on your feet all day, whether for work or travel, is crucial," says Caroline McCulloch, podiatrist and founder of Frankie4 footwear. "Making sure your feet have a good foundation is an excellent first step to avoid or alleviate heel pain."

"When a flat shoe lacks appropriate cushioning and support, the chances of suffering plantar fasciitis (or heel pain) may be increased," she continues. "Pain from Morton’s Neuroma is another common foot complaint caused by lack of cushioning, poor support, and an overly tight fit across the forefoot. Shoes that are poorly fitted through the forefoot may lead to the development of skin lesions such as corns or calluses—in addition to possible joint issues such as toe deformities and the development of increased pressure underneath the foot."

The Most Comfortable Sneakers of 2024

To help prevent these concerns, McCulloch recommends choosing pairs with breathable, flexible materials, cushioned insoles, and ample arch support. And thanks to today's vast assortment of options, it's easier than ever to find a silhouette that doesn’t skimp on style, either—take Chloé's colorful woven platforms or Klaw's chunky white kicks, for example. Below, we tapped Bazaar editors for their favorite picks and read hundreds of shopper reviews to find the 14 most comfortable sneakers that both look and feel incredible.

What to look for in the most comfortable sneakers

linebreak

"For everyday wear and activities like walking or standing for extended periods, comfortable sneakers with cushioned soles and ample room for toe movement are essential," says McCulloch. Your toes should have room to wiggle and not touch the end of the shoe. Styles with foam cushioning will be soft underfoot, while those with rubber will be a bit more durable, but ultimately not as cushy.

"Finding footwear with breathable materials is also key for added comfort," adds McCulloch. "A good sneaker shouldn’t feel heavy. Instead, they should feel like supportive clouds under your feet."

How can you make a shoe more comfortable?

linebreak

If you've already invested in a pair of sneakers and found them to not be as comfortable as you'd like, don't give up just yet. There are a few ways to increase a shoe's comfort. "Chances are, if the shoe doesn’t fit properly at first wear, it likely won’t significantly increase its comfortability," says McCulloch. However, she notes that adding adjustable insoles "may help somewhat" by providing extra cushion for your feet or by correcting your instep.
