After a long day at work, there’s no better feeling that sinking into some luxuriously soft sheets. Whether you buy your bedding on Amazon or invest in high-quality bamboo sheets, comfort is key.
In the search for the absolute softest sheets, the materials will make a huge difference. While linen sheets are generally coarser and silk sheets are smoother, cotton is one of the go-tos. “Cotton is the world’s most popular textile, and for good reason. Soft, breathable, and moisture-wicking, it’s the perfect material for sheets,” Casper design director Naz Azodi tells Bazaar. “However, not all cotton is grown equally. Organic cotton is not just more environmentally friendly than conventional cotton, but also softer and longer-lasting.”

Along with materials, thread count is often touted as the be-all and end-all of determining bedding quality. However, there are certain limitations to this metric. “The higher the thread count, the finer the fabric density and likelihood to trap heat,” Azodi says. “If it’s too high for the material, you’ll wake up sweating, and if it’s too low, you may be irritated by the rough feel. It depends on the fabric, but the sweet spot is anywhere between 200 and 400.”
Additionally, some bedding materials don’t measure thread count at all–but that doesn’t mean they’re not just as soft as high-count cotton sheets. To cut through the noise, we combed reviews of the softest sheets for you. Here, shop the 15 softest sheets that will make you never want to get out of bed.
