Pinstripes are trending hard this fall.
Now, we know what you’re thinking: When were pinstripes not trending? But these aren’t just your everyday boss-lady suits with stripes. These pinstriped pieces are modern, innovative, and at times provocative.
From the runways of Stine Goya, LaQuan Smith, and other buzzy designers, the humble pinstripe is being reworked into unexpected materials and deployed with the female form in mind, injected with color beyond the safe earthy-tone palette. (Although sometimes, safe is perfection. See: anything Dakota Johnson wears.)
To see what the experts were seeing, we tapped Nicole Perry, senior buyer at Marissa Collections. She couldn’t help but mention Silvia Tcherassi and Brunello Cucinelli, and adds that several designers are playing with the pinstripe in fun and refreshing ways. She also mentions that the pinstripe is one of the most versatile patterns you can wear, and advises think outside the suit when framing your look.
“When it comes to wearing pinstripes beyond the traditional suit, the options are endless! Personally, I love incorporating them into a chic blouse for an effortless yet sophisticated look,” she says. You can also stack the stripes, doing as Perry does and wearing your pinstripe blouse under a pinstripe blazer, or pinstripe overall skirt, or double-breasted racerback pinstripe minidress. The options, she observes, are evidently endless.
