Michelle Williams' signature platinum pixie crop is a mainstay on many a hairstylist's moodboard, but the actress is embracing the bob this spring.

While on the press tour of her highly anticipated limited series Dying For Sex (which tells the story of a woman exploring her sexuality following a cancer diagnosis), Williams debuted an impeccably polished, flicked-out bob with the cleanest silhouette you could imagine.

Her hairstylist, Chris McMillan, dubs the look the "kinky little bob" – a double entendre that most likely refers both to the flippy ends and the provocative nature of Dying For Sex.

McMillan also recently created a similar look for The White Lotus star Leslie Bibb. Describing the style, he says: "It's just a super-blunt, straight across, slightly angled, longer-in-the-front bob".

McMillan created a video showing precisely how he cut Bibb's "c*nty little bob", which he shared with his Instagram followers. "Continuity plays a big part when you do a TV show or a film," he explained. "Having something really easy and simple to maintain, especially in that humidity of Thailand, I think we nailed it." Bibb's sunkissed tone was touched-up by the Hollywood colourist Tracey Cunningham.

The sleek bob is quickly becoming associated with guests of The White Lotus hotels. Fans of the show will also remember the much-admired flicked-out style worn by the actress Simona Tabasco, who played Sicilian escort Lucia, in season two – albeit a fractionally longer, less rigid version.

To recreate Williams' and Bibb's modern bob hairstyle at home, look to glossing and smoothing formulas such as Color Wow Dream Coat to keep flyaways at bay. A lightweight hair oil will also restore shine and moisture to dry ends. Regular use of bond-building treatments such as Olaplex or K18 will help maintain the integrity of bleached and coloured hair, too.

This minimalist, modern bob feels especially fresh as we enter the warmer months. To add interest, just add a simple hair pin or barrette and consider your new season style, sorted.
