The first Monday in May can only mean one thing: the Met Gala is back – and this year's anticipated event was as breathtakingly extravagant as one would expect.
Honouring the theme of 'The Garden of Time', inspired by the J.G. Ballard short story of the same name, alongside the accompanying exhibition entitled 'Sleeping Beauty: Reawakening Fashion', there were swathes of delicate otherworldly outfits on the red carpet. But fashion's elite pushed beauty boundaries, too, presenting striking looks making Met history.
With a mixture of whimsical fairytale interpretations (think boho hair, floral accents and painterly blush) alongside darker metaphors (by way of make-up metaphor and knowingly deep colours), the creativity displayed offers endless inspiration.

Zendaya
Bold while delicate, Zendaya's beauty look featured monochromatic merlot red lips, eyes and nails, while her low bun – inspired by the shape of a calla lily – was crafted by Ursula Stephen using Living Proof haircare and Dyson tools.
Jennifer Lopez
Embodying her signature 'JLo glow', Lopez matched her make-up to her beaded Schiaparelli haute couture gown with radiant delicate highlights. Her hair, moulded into the highest bun by Lorenzo Martin, read romantic, soft and ethereal.
FKA Twigs
FKA Twigs' jewellery extended to her face and head, which was adorned with fantastical crystals, complimenting her high-shine lips and platinum nails.
Amanda Seyfried
Amanda Seyfried stole the show with icy-silver hair, styled up with fantastical botanical-like kiss curls adorning her forehead and temple and accessorised with a Chaumet tiara. In contrast, though complimentary, her cool-toned purple Lancôme lip maintained a futuristic feel.
Jessica Biel
Jessica Biel was one of many A-listers opting for whimsical waves, hers showing a mixture of textures as inspired by the botanical-meets-sleeping beauty themes. Her pretty make-up mirrored her gown with flushes of petal pink.
Kaia Gerber
Inspired by her own mother, Kaia Gerber was one of the few stars to opt for a more structured beauty look, her hair coiffed into a voluminous, gravity-defying down-do alongside a similarly tailored make-up look.
Doja Cat
With metallic tears, Doja Cat once again excelled at pushing beauty boundaries, committed to contrasting delicacy and drama as per the theme.
Sydney Sweeney
Sydney Sweeney looked unrecognisable with a black fringed bob, which was styled with a fluffy texture alongside thick, wide-eyed lashes, over-lined lips and shimmery skin courtesy of her make-up artist Melissa Hernandez.
Alexandra Daddario
Alexandra Daddario's golden graphic eye make-up created by Lottie Stannard for Dior Beauty was the perfect accompaniment to her serpent-styled hairdo.

Opting for a classic red lip, Gigi Hadid brought some glamour to the carpet's beauty palette with a high-shine take on an old Hollywood look. Her Marilyn Monroe-inspired hairdo by stylist Laura Polko for Joico made for a voluptuous take on the supermodel’s new bob cut.
