The cord necklace is the latest Nineties trend we’re loving this summer

From Sabrina Carpenter to Emily Ratajkowski, the retro style is everywhere

Scrunchies, bucket hats, combat trousers, wedges, slip dresses and now, cord necklaces: the Nineties fashion comeback is going nowhere.

Celebrities including Bella Hadid, Emily Ratajkowski, Iris Law, Camille Charriere and Sabrina Carpenter have all been spotted wearing the crafty style, while Valentino, Gabriela Hearst and Loewe have all included them in recent collections. The style taps into the current vogue for all things customisable – you could even make one yourself – as well as our love for dressed-down looks. It’s certainly a departure from the Quiet Luxury trend, where tasteful bling, not artsy talismans, rules.

Here, shop 10 of our favourites from designers including The YSSO, Alighieri and Anissa Kermiche.

This shell necklace reminds us of The Little Mermaid, which is no bad thing. Supersized and detailed, it's a real statement piece that is probably best reserved for wearing with a simple white tank or tee.

Aventurine is considered to be something of a good luck talisman, which makes this necklace by cult brand By Pariah even more appealing.

For something a little more delicate, we love this option from Otiumberg, with the combination of the knotted cord and knotted gold pendant.

Adjustable so that you can wear it as a choker or a longer necklace, this Alighieri design has a sweet backstory, and was inspired by one worn by the designer's father in Zimbabwe in the 1980s.

Everything Anissa Kermiche is curvaceous and womanly, so it's no surprise her cord necklace features this gorgeous scroll with a little flash of sparkle via the cubic zirconia gemstone.

For a slightly tougher take, this double-strand knotted necklace from Valentino is the epitome of maximalist glamour.

Influencer Lucy Williams recently teased more cord necklaces in her next collection for Missoma, but until then, there's always this square coin design, a great one for layering.

Pearl jewellery is having a real moment (thanks in part to Bridgerton) and we are loving this simple but elegant necklace with its gorgeously smooth pearl pendant.

Whistles' jewellery selection is oft overlooked, but it has some great design-led pieces. This abstract starfish cord pendant is case in point.

Sometimes less is more, and that's certainly the case here, with this directional pendant by Cos offering a timelessly chic option to tap into the trend.
