10 coats and jackets to wear this spring

From cropped trenches to buttery leathers, these are the styles to see you through the season

By Hannah Thompson

While a favourite season for many, spring can be a tricky time for navigating one's day-to-day dressing. There's still a hangover from winter with a brisk chill in the air, and there's a reason the term 'April showers' gets banded around so much. That said, there's much to celebrate about the season through our wardrobe; brighter colours, less bulky layers and lighter fabrics can all be brought to the fore, but it's a good coat or jacket that will be your most prized investment for spring.

There are some classic silhouettes that come out of hibernation each time the clocks go forward; the trench coat is an absolute staple of the season, offering versatility with styling and practicality in the British weather. Leather jackets are another perennial contender, adding a slick edge, as are boxy cotton jackets and mackintoshes.

Although timeless, you can expect that these coat and jackets will receive a facelift at the spring/summer shows each year, when designers will put in their bid for the piece of the season, adding an oversized proportion here and an unexpected finish there.

Below, find our edit of the best coats and jackets for spring 2025, from Saint Laurent and Khaite to Barbour.

Khaite

Khaite

Every wardrobe should contain a good denim jacket, and Khaite's Saunder style is one of our favourites. With a slightly oversized fit, this denim would look great doubled up with a pair of jeans, and come the summer months, can be flung over a mini dress for a laid-back look.
