If you’re heading to Italy’s most stylish isle this summer, here are the chic Capri hotels to book.
Just off the Amalfi Coast and a short boat ride from Naples, the glamorous island has a spectacular shoreline that includes the famous Faraglioni rocks and the Grotta Azzurra.
Anacapri is the island’s quieter half, a little away from the crowds that flock to the Piazzatta every summer. Just off the square, Via Camerelle is famous for its boutiques.
The best hotels in Capri include home-from-home JK Place, where you’ll be treated like one of la famiglia from the moment you arrive, before you’ve even had a chance to check in to your sleek sea-facing suite; and the charming boutique property Pazziella Garden & Suites, one of the oldest hotels on the island, with its vibrant lemon trees and friendly team.

Pazziella Garden & Suites
One of the oldest hotels on Capri, Pazziella Garden & Suites was originally built as a private villa in the 1900s, before being converted into a luxury 25-room boutique hotel in the 1950s. That history is evident, and the property has been lovingly restored in a chic, contemporary style that makes the most of its beautiful surroundings.
It's ideally located, a short walk from the central Piazza Umberto I, the gardens – with vibrant bougainvillea and a magnificent lemon tree – providing an oasis of calm from the bustling streets. As the name suggests, this is a suite-only property and each is entirely unique; sea-view balcony rooms feature sweeping vistas across the island's landscape, while the patio and terrace suites feature private pools or jacuzzis. The staff are exceptionally warm and welcoming, ensuring you're thoroughly well looked after and helping to arrange boat trips, restaurant recommendations and private tours (admiring the craftsmanship at the studio of local artisan knitwear brand Farella was a highlight). Also, don't miss the P Garden Lounge Bar and Restaurant, with its seasonal menu blending the best of classic Mediterranean and Neapolitan cuisine.
JK Place Capri
JK Place Capri is as homely as it sounds. From the moment you arrive, you’re treated like part of la famiglia, with a glass of prosecco (or whatever you fancy) to enjoy over a casual check-in as you admire the effortless Italian elegance surrounding you. You won’t see a bill during your stay here, since it goes against the JK ethos – you wouldn’t be handed a check to sign at a friend’s house, so they don’t want to introduce such formalities here either.
Come morning, you can throw open the French doors in your suite to reveal a view of the sparkling blue Gulf of Naples and beyond. The views are equally mesmerising from the deck come sunset. Here, guests can enjoy a landscape that's straight out of a Slim Aarons photograph, with the tanned locals standing in as extras.
Capri Palace Jumeirah
One of the most luxurious hotels on the island, Capri Palace, now a part of the Jumeirah collection, has enough to keep guests entertained for days, from various restaurants to a super spa. At the latter, you’ll be able to sign up for Valmont facials, one-to-one Pilates practice and treatments that will make you feel like you’re floating at this medi-spa’s very own Leg School.
Two-Michelin-starred L’Olivo is so fancy, even bottled water has its own menu; but the highlight of any mealtime here has to be a trip to the Il Riccio beach club, on the rocks above the water and with an incredible array of seafood to choose from and have cooked for you. Be sure to save space for pudding, since you’ll have free rein of an entire majolica-tiled room dedicated to sweet treats.
Capri Tiberio Palace
Since it's such a glamorous location, it’s inevitable Capri has countless stylish places to stay – and another classic is Capri Tiberio Palace, part of the Leading Hotels of the World collection. It has been one of the finest hotels on the island since the Twenties, and has been renovated in recent years. The boutique hotel is close to the island’s Piazzetta and the shop-lined streets that surround it.
The all-Italian elegance here comes in the form of Fifties-style furnishings, hand-painted tiles and a library curated by Taschen. Some of the suites have terraces overlooking the water, or you can enjoy the view during a Mediterranean or classic Caprese lunch on the restaurant’s breezy terrace.
Staff are on hand to encourage guests to go a little deeper into Capri, whether that means a private art tour, a helicopter ride around a volcano or a hike up one of their recommended trails.
Caesar Augustus
On the quieter side of the island in Anacapri, Caesar Augustus is on the edge of a cliff, 300 metres above sea level. The secluded setting stays peaceful even in high summer, when you’ll be able to admire the bay from the cool comfort of the double-level infinity pool.
With views this good, they almost needn't have bothered with the food. But they did – the hotel’s restaurant has a zero-mile menu, with much of the produce grown in the kitchen garden, pasta made in neighbouring Gragnano, lemons grown in Capri and seafood delivered by the island’s fishermen every day. The chef also bakes bread every morning. There are a handful of chef's tables for an even more special dining experience, with spectacular sea views of course coming as standard. It’s like someone’s idyllic holiday home and you’re invited.
La Scalinatella
A favourite Capri hotel since the Fifties, the five-star La Scalinatella is set behind a Moorish façade on Via Tragara, with two sea-facing swimming pools, a restaurant overlooking Marina Piccola and a terrace with yet more captivating views. The rooms and suites have been decorated with classic Caprese touches, such as hand-painted majolica tiles, vaulted ceilings, carved headboards, gilded frames and antique furniture.
Families and groups can book one of the two villas, which sleep four and six respectively. Once you’re ready to leave your island paradise (even if it's a while), the concierge can arrange boat trips around the island and across to the cliff-edge towns of the Amalfi Coast.
At the restaurant, there's no menu – instead, the head waiter will reel off that day's dishes, which will all be prepared with local, seasonal ingredients.
Hotel La Palma
The Oetker Collection’s superlative stays are a perfect match for Capri and the group made its debut on the island in time for the summer season in 2023. This makeover of Locanda Pagano, a historic hotel that was built in 1822, marked the group's first foray into Italy.
Today, the Golden Age is alive and well at Hotel La Palma. It is located a few steps from the Piazzetta, with three restaurants and bars (including one on the rooftop), a pool deck overlooking the boutique-lined Via Vittorio Emanuele, with white parasols and cyan-striped sunloungers, a spa and a beach club on the southern shores of the island at Marina Piccola. Chef Gennaro Esposito, usually busy running his two-Michelin-star restaurant Torre del Saracino over in Vico Equense, has been drafted in to oversee the culinary direction.
The hotel also has its own boutique, so guests can ensure they’re suitably attired for this chicest of destinations.
La Minverva
There are just 19 rooms at La Minerva, which means that staff are able to treat guests more like friends or relatives than a nameless number. It’s in the centre of town, close to the Piazzetta and the shops along Via Camerelle. Views of the sea are showcased from almost every room, as well as at the pool and up on the rooftop terrace, which is where breakfast is served each morning.
The hotel, which has majolica-tiled floors, vaulted ceilings and classic Italian ceramics crafted by artisans, is set across six terraced levels, on a hillside leading down to the sea. Along with immaculate lawns, the pool is lined with fragrant mimosa, almond and citrus trees. It's a classic Italian boutique hotel, with all-white interiors – bar the blue supplied by the sea, or a sunshine-yellow cushion.
Punta Tragara
Punta Tragara was designed by Le Corbusier, who envisioned it as somewhere to heal mind, body and soul. That it certainly does, and not just because of its serene setting on the edge of a cliff, a few steps away from the buzz of the piazzetta, nor for its unforgettable view of the Faraglioni rocks. The modernist terracotta building was a satellite HQ during World War II, with guests including Dwight D Eisenhower and Winston Churchill.
In 1968, it was purchased by a count, who decided to share his special holiday home with some fortunate guests, opening it as a hotel in the early Seventies. Interiors feature eye-catching flourishes such as zebra-striped floors, vaulted ceilings with chandeliers and curvaceous chaises longues. You'll be able to spy the famous rock formations from the terraces of some of the Bay of Capri-facing suites.
Orsa Maggiore
On the road that leads to the Grotta Azzurra (or Blue Grotto) in Anacapri, Orsa Maggiore has a perfectly positioned pool with a panoramic view of the surroundings. You're never far from a view of the bay though, since each of the boutique hotel’s 14 rooms has its own terrace or patio overlooking the shore below.
Days during your stay can be spent visiting the island’s most iconic grotto since it's so close. Other sights of note nearby include the lighthouse or Villa San Michele, once the home of the Swedish physician Axel Munthe. Or you can set sail in a traditional fishing boat to circumnavigate the island, with a stop at the famous Faraglioni rocks, of course. There's a free shuttle service whisking guests to and from the port
Villa Brunella
Another five-star retreat in Capri is Villa Brunella, the proud owner of one of the most photogenic vantage points going. There are lots of captivating views to be found on Capri, but it’s hard to beat the one of Marina Piccola and the Tyrrhenian Sea from the villa – especially if you're soaking it all in from the comfort of a pale blue striped sunlounger here (preferably with a chilled Aperol in hand).
The villa is on Via Tragara, within walking distance of the Piazzetta and Via Camerelle, with the pool perched above a cove and in the shadow of Mount Solaro. You won’t have to venture far to see the Faraglioni rocks, either.
