The days of cookie-cutter casting and uniform beauty on the runway are over and we're not looking back. As Odile Gilbert said at Zac Posen, "Nobody looks the same, everyone is different, so why not have different hair for everybody? It can be curly, it can be straight, it can be wavy—anything is possible." Gilbert also did the look at Altuzarra (left), where it was all about natural texture and big movement, achieved through drying the hair with a diffuser, twisting mousse into the roots and shaking it all out. "No irons; we keep curly hair because we love it," she said.

The ponytail went into retirement for a season as hairstylists turned to a chicer, more contained style: the knot. From intricate twists to messy loops to sleek chignons, there's one that works for every personality. Guido Palau was the man behind many of the standouts, including the pulled-apart, equestrian-inspired look at Tory Burch (left), the hairnet-covered, cone-chignon hybrids at Oscar de la Renta that referenced the styles seen in 18th century portraits and the ultracool double buns at Dior.

The prettiest waves don't require expert tonging skills or an extra hour in the morning—they're the result you get from sleeping in buns or braiding your hair on the commute and unwinding it when you get to the office. Imperfections are welcome here; in fact, Orlando Pita purposely added them in at BCBG, where he used a mini flat iron to create fake cowlicks near the part on one side of the head. At Anna Sui (left), Garren wrapped large sections around an iron, slipped the coiled curl off the tool and pulled it down and shook it around for a "ripple effect." And while the hair at Ralph Lauren and Sonia Rykiel was a bit more va-va-voom, it should still look like "sexy, got-out-of-bed pillow hair, like a guy has just messed it up," said Paul Hanlon. The one thing all the looks had in common: a center part. It's softer, it's cooler, it's easier, and that's everything you're going for.
