What do the faces of Alix Earle, Gigi Hadid, and Camila Cabello have in common? They have all been touched by one of TikTok’s most beloved makeup artists, Patrick Ta. You’ve likely seen the cult-favorite dual-sided blush palettes from Patrick Ta Beauty—which are the cornerstone of his unusual—but ingenious—technique of applying powder blush before cream blush.
The Bazaar beauty team can’t get enough of Ta’s blushes, which pack quite a punch with the high-pigment powder formula but leave a glow from the cream topper. And we’re not alone: The blush has garnered plenty of love on TikTok.
Today, the makeup artist reveals what’s sure to be his next viral product: the brand’s first-ever highlighter in his signature powder-cream duo palette. We got a sneak peek at the new highlighters, and we couldn’t crack into the products fast enough. Ahead, read our honest thoughts on Ta’s next viral sensation.
What is it?
While the Major Glow Crème and Powder Light Reflecting Highlighter Duos (out today) are Ta’s first true highlighter, his Glow Balm—which comes in a translucent and bronze shade—previously reigned when it came to leaving skin with that fresh-off-vacation glow. One formula in the dual-sided highlighter is a talc-free powder formula laced with multifaceted pearls for a lustrous—not glittery—effect. The other side, meant to top the powder, is a shea butter–infused balm-cream hybrid that adds a luminous finish to the pearly powder.
Are the highlighters worth the hype?
At first glance, the highlighters appear glitzy and glittery, likely to turn your face into a disco ball. But after playing with each of the shades, I quickly learned they are more wearable than they appear to be in the pan. To start, Ta created five wearable shades, each one encased in the signature rose-gold mirrored palette. And just when you thought he’d already thought of everything, he also created a plastic case to cover the cream side, to prevent dirt and grime from getting into it (a godsend when you’re traveling). The five shades in the collection include three golden shades: Honey, a bronze; Sugar, a champagne; and Daddy, a rose gold. Ta also created two cooler-toned shades: Baby, a soft pink, and My Love, a silvery white.
I used Ta’s dual-ended Precision Nose Brush—a fan favorite on TikTok for creating contouring like a pro—which features fluffy bristles to apply the powder and short, angular bristles to place the cream on top.
When following Ta’s powder-then-cream technique, the powder melts with the cream to turn into a luminous pearlescent highlight that is beautiful over makeup—but on bare skin, accentuates the cheekbones, brow bone, nose, and anywhere the light hits.
These glow-boosters will definitely be a staple in my summer makeup, whether for office looks, post-beach glam, or a night out.
