My obsession with Korean skincare is years in the making–and the rest of the internet and TikTok agree with me. It seems we’ve come full circle in skincare. We went from the 10-step Korean skincare routine craze of the 2010s to paring it back down with the skinimalism trend in recent years—and now we're back to a multi-step regimen again, with K-Beauty once again leading the charge. Undoubtedly, one of the biggest players in the K-Beauty game is Medicube. I first tried the brand’s 6-in-1 tool last year, and it quickly became my favorite and most-used device in my arsenal. It wasn’t until months later that I tried the brand’s viral skincare formulas, which soon became some of my favorite products, too.
I had been seeing the Medicube Collagen Jelly Cream everywhere on TikTok, so I picked up a jar. Plus, the formula just got the royal treatment, as Meghan Markle deemed the cream one of her go-to beauty products. The pink gloopy texture didn’t resemble any other moisturizer in my bathroom, and after months of using it, I’ve found so many ways the formula can be used to achieve glowing, glass skin. Ahead, I share my full review of the must-have cream and why it’s worth picking up during your next K-Beauty shopping spree.
What is the Medicube Collagen Jelly Cream?
The cream may look bouncy and lightweight, but the formula goes all-in with skin-improving ingredients in potent concentrations. The hero ingredient is collagen, of course. But what sets this collagen-infused cream apart from others is that it utilizes freeze-dried collagen, which has a very low molecular weight, so it penetrates deeper into the skin than collagen with a higher molecular weight. The cream also harnesses the power of hydrolyzed elastin, which has been broken down into amino acids through hydrolysis, boosting the skin’s rejuvenation process and acting as a humectant to draw in water and keep skin hydrated. If all that doesn’t sound impressive enough, the cream has squalane and niacinamide to prevent moisture loss and even skin tone.
How I Used the Collagen Jelly Cream
To me, the biggest enigma about this product was the consistency. Is it a jelly mask or a cream? I had seen people on TikTok applying a light layer to their skin as a final moisturizer step at night. However, the texture is quite sticky, so I didn’t love the idea of the pink gloopy product getting on my pillowcases. Instead, I applied a thick layer of the formula on my skin like a treatment mask for 10 to 15 minutes, especially to give my skin an extra boost of hydration and a plumping effect. My favorite way to use the mask-meets-cream was with my Medicube Age-R Booster Pro Device. While the device doesn’t call for a conductor gel, I like to have the thick jelly cream underneath for easy gliding and slip. Plus, using the Booster mode on the device in conjunction with the Collagen Jelly Cream means the collagen, elastin, and other nourishing ingredients penetrate deeper into my skin for better results. Honestly, this might just be the most versatile cream I've ever tried.
What are the Benefits of Using the Collagen Jelly Cream?
I’ve been using the Collagen Jelly Cream a few times a week for almost four months now, and after every use, my skin feels bouncier, plumper, and brighter. I will switch between the Collagen Jelly Cream and PDRN Pink Peptide Serum from Medicube to use with my Age-R Booster Pro Device. I turn to the Jelly Cream as a mask when my skin feels inflamed or super dehydrated since there are no AHAs or BHAs inside that can further irritate my skin. It's the perfect reset button treatment. There’s also a refreshing, almost cooling, feel when wearing it. The longer I wear the cream as a mask, the more hydrated my skin looks, so I love applying it while working from home or cleaning up around the house.
What are the Risks of Using the Collagen Jelly Cream?
Again, the cream has zero irritating ingredients, so there’s little to no risk in using it. The texture, though, can be tricky to remove if you use a thick layer as a mask. I can’t splash water on my face like I would with a typical mask, and I often have to use a cleanser to remove the gloopy residue. However, the results are worth the high maintenance removal.
Is It Worth It?
The Collagen Jelly Mask is now a mainstay in my masking lineup. I will continue using it, especially in conjunction with my Medicube device. Plus, you can’t beat the $20 price—and Amazon Prime shipping—for all the benefits and fancy and result-driven ingredients infused in the pink cream.
