You think you know a Beyoncé tour? This week in Inglewood, California, the superstar kicked off the Cowboy Carter Tour—her fifth all-stadium stint and tenth concert tour overall, in support of her Grammy-winning album of the same name. And it might just be Queen Bey’s biggest spectacle yet. (Still looking for last-minute tickets? Go here.)
On opening night in SoFi Stadium, the setlist included a whopping eight acts and a three hour show, with songs not only from Cowboy Carter, but many of her past albums as well. There was a healthy mix of recent hits, like “Texas Hold ’Em,” played alongside classics like “Crazy in Love” and “Diva.” Not to mention, many of Bey’s newer songs got interpolations that winked to her discography, like a remix of “Spaghettii” infused with bits of “Run the World (Girls),” “My Power,” and “***Flawless,” or a rendition of “Thique” that honored her Destiny’s Child days with samples of “Say My Name” and “Bills, Bills, Bills.”
However, it seems fans will be getting a surprise at every stop, because when Beyoncé stepped out for her second show in Inglewood on May 1, she ended up completely changing the setlist. Some songs got moved around, while four beloved hits from her discography got added: “Irreplaceable,” “If I Were A Boy,” “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It),” and “Love on Top.”
“I have the best fans in the world,” Beyoncé told the historic sold-out crowd on the opening night of her tour. “I love you so much. We worked so hard to make this as perfect as we could for y’all. I hope y’all had fun.” Clearly, Beyoncé is going to try to make her tour as perfect as possible, even if that means tweaking the setlist a little each night.
The Cowboy Carter Tour will journey across the United States, France, and England for the next three months, with the final show taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 26. And if one thing’s for certain, it’s that Beyoncé is going to put on a spectacle.
