The Assassination of Gianni Versace returns for a second episode this week, but FX is already teasing more moments from the new season. Notably, this preview shows the titular designer's decision to publicly come out as gay in a joint interview with his longtime partner, Antonio D'Amico.

The footage teases Versace choosing to arrange an interview to openly discuss his sexuality. It's a brave decision, but his sister Donatella tries to dissuade him. "You have forgotten how ugly the world can be," she tells him, clad Versace's iconic brocade and butterfly prints.

Gianni answers with a question: "Is the brand of Versace braver than the man?"

Later, we see him introducing D'Amico to the reporter interviewing him. "We have been together for 13 years," Versace says. "I would like to conduct the interview together."

The scene references Versace's famous interview with The Advocate, where he revealed the truth about his sexuality. Showrunner Ryan Murphy recalled being moved by that piece when it was published.

"Even when I was younger, I really loved [Gianni Versace] and looked up to him," he said at TCA in August. "And I remember being so proud and excited when he did that interview in The Advocate, because at the time, there wasn't really a lot of people who were brave enough to live their life in the open."

In addition to Versace's coming out moment, the preview continues to tease his killer Andrew Cunanan's mysterious past and the murders he committed before Versace. The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story airs on Wednesdays at 10 PM EST on FX.
