FX just released the intense trailer for next week’s episode of The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. It teases the episode’s focus on Andrew Cunanan’s first and second victims, Jeffrey Trail and David Madson.
Australian actor Cody Fern plays Madson, who was a 33-year-old architect and ex-boyfriend of Cunanan (Darren Criss). In real life, Cunanan allegedly called Madson, "the love of my life."
“Are you going to leave me?” Cunanan asks Madson in the trailer, which also introduces Finn Wittrock as Jeffrey Trail, a former U.S. naval officer who was a friend of both Cunanan and Madson. “He knows about us,” Madson warns Trail, implying that Cunanan's jealousy of Madson and Trail’s relationship may have spurred the killer to begin his murder spree.
The trailer opens with a body bag before cutting to police questioning Madson's parents following the discovery of Trail's body. "He didn't do this," Madson's father tells the cops, as the scene flashes to clips of Madson and Cunanan apparently on the run together. The episode's title, "House By The Lake," is likely a reference to the lakeside location where Madson's body was ultimately found, six days after Trail's.
The trailer ends on a chilling note, with Madson asking Cunanan, "You can't do it, can you?" Cunanan, smug, asks, "What?" Madson, glaring, replies, "Stop."
Despite the series' title, there's no sign of Gianni Versace (Edgar Ramirez) in the teaser for this episode. He also did not appear in last night's episode, "A Random Killing."
The Assassination of Giani Versace: American Crime Story airs Wednesdays on FX at 10 PM EST.
