The Summer I Turned Pretty will return for a third (and final) year at Cousins Beach.

Based on creator and author Jenny Han’s book series, the teen romance premiered in summer 2022 on Prime Video, with a faithful and quickly beloved adaptation of Belly’s (Lola Tung) complex love triangle with brothers Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno). In the second season, everything changed in the wake of a personal tragedy, and Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah reunited for what seemed like their last summer in Cousins. Of course, book fans know that the Conklin and Fisher families have a third eventful summer together, and the show’s now set to follow the same course.

Read on for what we know about the show’s forthcoming third season so far.

When does season three come out?

Prime Video confirmed that season three will air July 16, 2025 and would also mark the show’s final season. They released the official poster for the show’s return which featured Lola Tung as Belly in a pastel yellow dress with the corresponding tagline, “We’ll always have summer.”

The trailer hints at more love triangle drama.

The first official trailer for season three, which arrived on April 24, promises more drama between Belly and the Fisher brothers. In a 40-second montage played to Taylor Swift’s 2019 hit single “Daylight,” fans get a glimpse of Belly and Jeremiah’s college relationship, from outdoor pool movie nights at Cousins to PDA-filled library dates. The music suddenly cuts when Belly opens the door and finds Conrad waiting for her. The two exchange a long, meaningful gaze as the background song changes to Taylor Swift’s 2012 song, “Red.”

Swifties know all too well the connection between these two tracks. In “Red,” Swift sings about a relationship that she likens to “burning red,” while “Daylight” embraces a relationship that is unlike any other she has experienced (“I once believed love would be burning red / But it’s golden / Like daylight”). Fans were quick to notice that the trailer cuts the line “But it’s golden” right before abruptly interjecting with the line, “But loving him was red.” What do the song choices mean for each of the Fisher boys’ fates? We’ll just have to tune in this summer to see.

What will season three of The Summer I Turned Pretty be about?

The official logline for season three reads: “It’s the end of her junior year of college, and Belly’s looking forward to another summer in Cousins with her soulmate, Jeremiah. Her future seems set, until some core-shaking events bring her first love Conrad back into her life. Now on the brink of adulthood, Belly finds herself at a crossroads and must decide which brother has her heart. Summer will never be the same.”

The teen dramedy has followed the arc of the trilogy of books so far, with season one following the first book The Summer I Turned Pretty, and season two adapting the sequel, It’s Not Summer Without You. Book three, We’ll Always Have Summer, takes place two years later, and brings the series to a close as Belly makes a final choice between Conrad and Jeremiah. However, the Prime Video series has been known to make changes to the source material (including the addition of new season two character Skye), so the creative team could have some new twists in store for season three.

When did The Summer I Turned Pretty get renewed for a third season?

On August 3, Prime Video confirmed that the series will return for a third installment with a video montage of moments from season two, which has become one of the streamer’s most-watched shows. Per the announcement, season three was originally greenlit ahead of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes which has since been resolved.

Han wrote on Instagram, “We’ll Always Have Summer 🤍 So excited to finally share that we’re coming back to Cousins for Season 3, and this time we’ll have 10 whole episodes.”
