It’s been three long years since Euphoria has graced our screens. While fans of the HBO drama will sadly have to wait until next year to catch up with their favorite characters, new photos from the set of season three are already hinting at what comes next.
Sydney Sweeney and Alexa Demie, who play Cassie and Maddy in the series, were spotted filming a scene for the show earlier this week. Cruising down Los Angeles’s Sunset Boulevard in an old-fashioned convertible, the duo reprised their characters in two distinct outfits: Sweeney emulated Cassie in a blue-and-white checkered top and a butterfly necklace, while Demie channeled a grown-up Maddy in a silk headscarf, oversize amber sunglasses, and a fur stole. Sitting in the backseat were a large pink-and-white striped luggage and a bamboo top handle Gucci duffel. Think Thelma & Louise, but with a healthy dose of glamour.
Other recent photos and videos from set showed appearances from Zendaya, who stars as Rue, and Rosalía, who is joining the cast in a currently undisclosed role. Previous on-set photos teased Sweeney in a wedding dress walking down an aisle decorated with the initials “C” and “N”—a subtle detail that spurred speculation that Cassie marries Nate, who is portrayed by Jacob Elordi.
Although HBO renewed Euphoria for a third season in February 2022, filming on the project did not start until earlier this year due to delays from Hollywood’s writers’ strike and showrunner Sam Levinson’s commitments to other projects, such as The Idol. Season three is expected to premiere in 2026.
Sweeney reflected on returning to Cassie in an interview with People last year. “I’m very excited to jump back into Cassie. She is definitely one of the most special characters for me and I love my Euphoria family, so I look forward to it,” she told the outlet. “I love crazy Cassie, so the crazier, the better for me.”
Back in 2022, Zendaya hinted that season three will explore the characters’ lives beyond the confines of high school. “I think it’ll be exciting to explore the characters out of high school,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “I want to see what Rue looks like in her sobriety journey, how chaotic that might look. But also with all the characters, in the sense where they’re trying to figure out what to do with their lives when high school is over and what kind of people they want to be.”
