Bill and Hillary Clinton have arrived at Donald Trump’s inauguration.

The prominent Democratic couple showed a united front as they walked into the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., for the ceremony.

Rather than wear MAGA red or bipartisan purple, they dressed in the color of democracy. Bill, the 42nd U.S. president, was sharp in a dark navy suit, white shirt, and bright blue tie. Hillary coordinated in her own power suit, composed of a buttoned-up coat and tailored pants in a deep royal blue, by Stella McCartney. Her coat was adorned with a gold-and-blue pin. To stay warm after the ceremony, Hillary then layered on a long custom-made coat in the same blue and embroidered with flowers, also by McCartney.

Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and George W. Bush also wore blue suits and ties. Kamala Harris, meanwhile, wore a monochrome black ensemble, and Michelle Obama did not attend.

The Clintons joined the Obamas and other prominent political figures in supporting Harris during her passionate presidential run against Trump. At the Democratic National Convention in August 2024, Hillary recalled her own race against Trump in 2016, which she lost, despite having earned a larger share of the popular vote.

“I wish my mother and Kamala’s mother could see us. They would say, ‘Keep going,’ surely. And Gerry would say, ‘Keep going.’ Women fighting for reproductive health care are saying, ‘Keep going.’ Families building better lives, parents stretching to afford childcare, young people struggling to pay their rent—they’re all asking us to keep going,” Hillary said.

She praised Harris’s record as a prosecutor and as a champion of human rights. And, she wasn’t shy in voicing her criticism of Trump. “So no matter what the polls say, we can’t let up. We can’t get driven down crazy conspiracy rabbit holes. We have to fight for the truth,” she said.

Bill joined his wife in going after Trump, saying that he “has been a paragon of consistency” in all the wrongs ways: “He’s still dividing, he’s still blaming, he’s still belittling other people. He creates chaos, and then he sort of curates it as if it were precious art.”
