New York City may be currently in the midst of fashion week—a tradition that's been ongoing for over 70 years—but its assumed status as the "most fashionable city in America" might be losing its grip. According to a new study, that title now belongs to Los Angeles.
The research examined over 100 cities in the U.S. to find the country's most stylish one. First it counted the number of fashion-related businesses in each city via Yelp, and divided that total by the its number of occupied households, courtesy of Trulia. The latter also takes into account fashion-related real-estate listings, which were indicated by features like dressing rooms, for example.
The result showed Los Angeles on top, with New York as a close second and Anaheim in third place.
Designers are catching on to, if not leading, the fashion scene's move westward. Tom Ford and Jeremy Scott chose to host their fashion shows in L.A., but the trend isn't only among American designers. Stella McCartney and Saint Laurent also presented there this year. McCartney showed Pre-Fall 2016 at Amoeba Music in Los Angeles while Hedi Slimane used the Hollywood Palladium as his Fall 2016 venue.
