For all the posh ladies of London, this is a town with a true punk past—and designers are paying homage with many cool takes on tattoo prints. Temperley London was set against a ship full mast in front of dark skies and a waxing moon, so more pirates than punk—but equally into the idea of body art on sheer overlay dresses and skirts. For her return to London, Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen presented opening looks with drawn butterflies on leather—a tougher counterpart to the ethereal dresses that followed. Mary Katrantzou was inspired by Romeo and Juliet with a rockabilly vibe that presented on biker jackets with birds, hearts and leopard prints. And J.W. Anderson had fun with flowers, putting an ink-inspired rose front and center on two stand-out pieces in the collection. Consider it a chic compromise for those too scared to make it permanent.
