The best fragrance services to help find the perfect perfume for your wedding

Within Liberty's new interactive Fragrance Lounge, beneath the storied department store's main Beauty Hall, are some plush private suites housing appointments with the space's Fragrance Concierge team.

The Wedding Scent Service (£50 for one hour) is a non-intimidating discovery session helping you identify the perfect perfume(s) for you and your special occasion. During the consultation, where you can enjoy a glass of English sparkling wine and Charbonnel truffles, you and your partner are guided through the most suitable matches within your preferred olfactory category until you find firm favourites.

There’s no pressure to buy, although purchases made on the day are engraved with your names and wedding date, and artfully gift-wrapped in the way Liberty does with the upmost expertise.

All Jo Malone London stores offer the brand’s complimentary Scent You Wedding Service, an interactive experience which takes you on a scented journey to discover the perfect fragrance – or fragrances – that will bring your day to life. The expert stylist guiding you will explain the various ways scent can work in your day, from your personal perfume as you walk down the aisle (this could mean a bespoke combination of cologne and body products to make it unique), to scented candles and room sprays – perhaps spritzed onto your table linen – heightening the atmosphere, and even with themed favours. There’s also the option for embossing and engraving available, to make your scented products the ultimate keepsakes.

Floris is the only perfumer to have a royal warrant from the Queen, and has a long history with the royal family; it is believed that Her Royal Highness wore the brand's White Rose when she married, and more recently the fine fragrance house created a bespoke scent for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding day. Their personalised perfumery services – perfect for brides (and grooms) – include the ‘Together’ Fragrance Customisation, where for £950 couples can meet with a Floris perfumer in privacy and create two completely unique 100ml eau de parfums. There’s also a Bespoke Fragrance Customisation service, £550, which offers the same service if you wanted to create a signature scent just for you. Both include engraving, so the scent is unique to you on the inside and out.

Perfect for grooms- and brides-to-be, Creed offers luxury Bespoke Fragrance Consultations (one hour, £35) to help you find a new favourite fragrance. At the Creed Boutique in Mayfair, the journey of scent discovery takes place in a private room with one of the fragrance house’s highly trained experts. Alone, in a couple, or with a small bridal party, you can enjoy a glass of champagne as you find ‘The One’, olfactory speaking, which can be monogrammed to be made even more personal.

The Experimental Perfume Club (a space – not just a shop – to “layer, blend and experiment” with scent), specialises in bespoke perfume creation. At the lab within the Covent Garden boutique you can book a free blending session, allowing you to create your own personalised scent (based on the brand’s collection of niche perfumes) in a four-step process. For those looking to dive more deeply into the perfumery process, they offer various masterclasses led by experts, from one-to-one sessions to half- and full-day workshops.

If you aren’t instinctively drawn to one brand, working with a perfume stylist is the way to go. French fragrance expert Isabelle Langlois, who lives in London but works on a UK-wide basis, offers personalised ‘perfume-styling sessions’ for brides and grooms as well as ‘perfume parties’ – a gorgeous hen do activity. Working mainly with independent British brands (“always niche, never mainstream”) one-to-one sessions start with consultations, which can be done virtually or in person. You’ll then complete a questionnaire and feed back on how you respond to the various fragrance categories (sent to you on pre-scented cotton balls) during a profiling session. Finally, after doing her research, you go through Langlois’ handpicked selection one by one, leaving with a perfume box housing three favourites.

Perfume styling sessions cost £295 for one person, or £345 for a couple to find one unisex fragrance, with a discovery box included and 20 per cent off on a full-size perfume bottle. Perfume parties cost £245 for two hours, with perfume boxes costing £40 each.

Fragrance specialists Samuel and Josh are the duo behind Fiole, a virtual scent matching service working with independent luxury fragrance houses. Utilising their industry knowledge and expertise they developed The Fiole Fragrance Finder which, via a simple but smart questionnaire, pairs you with six perfumes. Sample-sized versions (numbered, not named) are posted out with instructions guiding you to test them like a pro.
