It was one of Netflix’s most watched (and most highly bingeable) shows last year, so it’s little wonder the streaming giant has now green-lit The Perfect Couple for a second season.
Similarly to the first iteration of the limited series, the sequel will be based on a novel by best-selling author Elin Hilderbrand, with her 2024 book Swan Song being the basis of the story.
Swan Song follows Leslee and Bill Richardson, who have been dubbed as ‘the spiritual successors’ to The Perfect Couple’s Greer (played by Nicole Kidman) and Tag (Liev Schreiber) Winbury. The Richardsons are now the proud owners of a $22 million summer home, which they use to throw Gatsby-style lavish parties and flaunt their seemingly impossible wealth. However, when the mansion goes up in flames and an employee goes missing, questions around the Richardsons start to percolate.
While the cast are yet to be announced, the production team at the helm of a second season bodes well. The Bear producer and co-showrunner Joanna Calo will serve as writer and showrunner. Kidman, meanwhile, will continue to be an executive producer, while Susanne Bier Gail Berman, Shawn Levy, Per Saari and Hend Baghdady all expected to remain on board, according to Deadline.
The Perfect Couple racked up 3.4 billion minutes watched within the first week of its release in September last year. The mini-series followed Amelia (Eve Hewson), who was about to marry into one of the wealthiest families on Nantucket until a sudden death delays the wedding, causing a series of secrets to come bubbling to the surface.
Kidman received praise for starring as the domineering and disapproving matriarch Greer, with her involvement in the series part of her personal derive to work with more female producers and directors.
