The best dried flowers for a spring style refresh
They’re chic and long-lasting, making them the perfect interior update
While we will always love a freshly cut bouquet, dried flowers have become a mainstay in our homes – and on our social media feeds.
With more than 3.25 million tags on Instagram, dried flowers are one of the most sought-after interior trends around. The likes of pampas and palm spears are two of the most popular stems, but bunches can range from oversized pastel-hued blooms to striking architectural displays. Varied in style, texture and colour, dried flowers have come a long way from the tired, dusty arrangements of old.
Effortlessly chic, today's best dried bunches are a maintenance-free alternative to a fresh flower delivery, and look stylish almost anywhere in your home. Position a larger-than-average bunch on a designated spot on a sideboard or an assortment of dried grasses on your coffee table to update your interior aesthetic with minimal effort.
How to look after dried flowers
According to Nem Vorkapic, UK head of Floristry and Design at luxury florist Floward, there are only a few tips that you need to consider when caring for your dried flowers. Just remember the golden rules: don’t water them and keep them out of direct sunlight.
Vorkapic also advises to put them in a place with good airflow and avoid spaces where they’ll be more likely to be moved around. “Dried flowers are fragile, and they will change over time, but they’ll last for years if you look after them well,” he says.
When cleaning, lightly dust them with a feather duster or use your hairdryer on a low, cool setting.
What are preserved flowers?
If you can’t bear to give up your fresh blooms, preserved flowers make a similar, longer lasting alternative. The sap in their stems is replaced with glycerine, enabling them to retain a fresh looking appearance with flexible petals and leaves. They should keep for up to a year, after which they will start to lose moisture and take on an appearance more akin to traditional dried flowers.
The best dried flowers to invest in now
Although we’ve mostly picked out prearranged bouquets, some florists offer individual stems that you can arrange yourself. Pick up lavender and dried poppy heads to add a rustic feel to your bunches, or peacock feathers for an opulent, unexpected vibe.
We’ve carefully curated the best luxury dried flowers and preserved flowers out there – from pared-back, muted arrangements for an understated look, to big, bold bouquets for those who prefer to stand out – so you can refresh your home for spring and beyond.
