The Duchess of Sussex has been serving up a slate of sophisticated ensembles over the past week while in attendance at the Invictus Games in Vancouver, but there's one particular accessory that's caught the attention of eagle-eyed fans; a new gold ring.
Meghan and Prince Harry have continued their tradition of attending the sporting event together again this year, sitting in on the various games and meeting with participating athletes and their families. While the details of her cold-weather outfits have been subject to much attention — including her cosy Aritizia puffer jacket — the new addition of a signet ring, spotted on Markle's pinky finger as she waved to crowds during the event, ignited even more speculation.
The signet ring appears to be engraved with the couple's joint monogram, featuring their two forename initials intertwined under a crown. While the duchess has been seen sporting a signet style before – including a heart-embossed ring by Missoma in 2018 – the piece appears to be a new addition to her jewellery collection.
The personalised ring is a departure from royal tradition, which often sees members of the monarchy wearing heirloom pieces passed down the family, such as the late Queen Elizabeth II's pearl earrings that Kate wore to a Holocaust memorial service earlier this month. That said, Kate has also been seen sporting more affordable and mid-range jewellery, including pieces from Monica Vinader and By Pariah.
Meghan isn't the only A-lister to opt for an engraved signet ring; Zendaya has been photographed wearing a signet ring engraved with fiancée Tom Holland's initials, with Holland also sporting a matching piece illustrated with hers. While the actor couple unveiled their embossed rings before their engagement, Meghan's monogrammed signet has come almost 10 years after the royal couple tied the knot. Whether a symbol of love pre or post-marriage, it's clear that the signet ring has become the new statement hallmark for loved-up couples.
