Gold jewellery is a true staple – here are 30 pieces to shop now

Including our favourite under-the-radar brands

By and Hannah Thompson

In recent years, gold jewellery has reached staple status. What stylish woman doesn't top her tailoring and all-neutral looks with a pair of hoops in this warm metal?

Before, gold was seen as too blingy and costume-like to be worn everyday but now, it's celebrated for its simplicity. Jewellery designers have moved away from baroque settings, opting instead for pieces with smooth curves, clean lines and subtly abstract shapes.

Still, that doesn't mean you can't get playful with your styling. A slender chain can go from understated to bohemian when layered, and even the most traditional of rings will add drama when stacked together. Brands are designing with mixing and matching in mind, creating versatile, buildable looks so that customers can get the most out of their purchases.

Another reason for gold jewellery's surge in popularity in recent years (silver used to be the more affordable choice), is the introduction of quality vermeil pieces by labels like Monica Vinader. These fashion editor favourites have paved the way for even more independent jewellery brands, like Daphine, Loveness Lee and Oma The Label.

But if it's the real deal you're after – this stuff will truly last a lifetime – this edit is packed with a glittering array of gold bracelets, bangles, earrings and necklaces from the likes of Chanel, Tiffany & Co, Piaget, Cartier and Boodles.

Chopard's Happy Diamond collection is full of keepsake pieces that you'll treasure for a lifetime. We're especially fond of this necklace, which features a single sparkling white diamond encased in a 18-karat gold heart-shaped pendant.

Metcalfe creates ornate, one-off designs with a delectable array of gemstones, often held between the grasps of her signature pigeon claws. This 9-karat gold band holds two delicate rubies, set among antique-inspired floral engravings.

Those looking for jewellery with artistic influences will fall in love with Alighieri. The London-based brand was inspired by Dante's Divine Comedy, with literary works continuing to shape subsequent collections. These 24-karat gold-plated teardrop earrings take their unique form through the craft of lost-wax casting.

Cartier's legendary Love cuff now comes as a ring, too. This wedding band is understated, so it'll stand the test of time, but has the telltale sign of luxury thanks to those iconic Cartier lock etchings.

We love how Tiffany's T bangle feels both modern and classic at the same time. It looks great layered up with chain bracelets, but wearing it solo is the best way to showcase the deliciously simple design.
