L ’Oréal Paris is collecting ambassadors like Infinity Stones, and Ariana Greenblatt should know, since she starred in Avengers: Infinity War when she was just nine years old. Since then, the actress has been seen in a small, teeny-tiny little movie called Barbie, plus she has roles in the highly anticipated films Now You See Me: Now You Don’t and Fear Street: Prom Queen. At 17 years old, Greenblatt is not just one of Hollywood’s brightest rising stars, she’s also the new global ambassador for L’Oréal Paris, with upcoming campaigns for both the brand’s Revitalift vitamin C serum and Elvive Glycolic Gloss line.

Ahead, we caught up with the actress to discuss all things beauty—from her signature look to the one beauty trend she’d never try.

How does it feel to be the new global ambassador for L’Oréal Paris?

I mean, I’m just ecstatic overall. I’ve seen this brand and these commercials my entire life, and I’ve always loved what this brand specifically stands for; it goes so far beyond just makeup, hair products, and skincare. I mean, their true priority and focus is making the ambassadors feel good, making the buyers feel good. They just want people to feel beautiful. I think that’s so special and important, especially for my take on beauty and how girls my age feel about themselves as well. So I’m just so excited. It’s also fun working with a brand that you actually use every day; it feels very genuine and authentic, and that’s what I live for.

What are some of your favorite products from the brand?

My favorite, favorite, favorite—like, I will die on this hill—is L’Oréal Telescopic mascara. I started using that when I was a sophomore in high school, because I was looking at these girls in my class, and they had the most beautiful lashes. I researched what’s the best mascara. I bought that one, and I’ve used it ever since. The formula has never failed me. Obviously, the iconic hairspray Elnett. I mean, every hairstylist I’ve ever worked with uses that huge gold tin of the L’Oréal hair spray. I think the smell is nostalgic to me. And my whole family has recently been using the L’Oréal Paris Revitalift vitamin C and vitamin E serum.

Which one of your roles was the most fun, beauty-wise?

It’s funny, because I’ve had multiple roles where I’ve had contacts, prosthetics, wigs—you know, a bunch of crazy, nontraditional things. I’ve been an alien. So those have definitely been fun on day one or two. Then on day four and five, I’m sick of being blind and not being able to see and having to sit still for four hours at 6 a.m., but they definitely transform you. Roles like that definitely helped me transition into whatever character I was playing. But I think the most fun, honestly, would have to be Barbie. The hair and makeup trailer itself—there was something new in it every day. There was a new reference photo every day. There was a new wig every day. Just getting to see the beauty process in the Barbie trailer. I mean, my character kept it pretty chill and natural, but I was just in awe of all the other Barbies and watching them get painted and have doll-like skin. It was really cool for me.

Who is your beauty idol?

I always have my little celebrity ones that I love to look at for references, but I think my mom. I’d have to say her. She was the first person to put makeup on me. My journey with beauty has definitely stemmed from watching my mom do her makeup and stealing her products. I have such vivid memories of being, like, five or six, and whenever she was not in her room, I would sneak in and grab random products and put them on my face very incorrectly. So I’d say my beauty icon is probably my mom, but obviously Audrey Hepburn has been the staple my whole life. I have books of her, I have paintings and pictures of her all over my room, and I reference her makeup, hair, and outfits all the time for my own red carpet. So she’s been consistent throughout the years.

You have a signature makeup look: lip liner and a little eyeliner. How would you describe your everyday approach to makeup?

I started doing my makeup so young, just because I loved the process. Genuinely, you can ask anyone in my family: If you don’t know where I’m at in the house, it’s my bathroom. I can just spend hours doing different types of makeup looks, practicing, watching videos, whatever. That’s my therapy. And I think throughout the years, I loved the pouty look. I don’t know how it’s become my thing. TikTok has really run with that situation, but I genuinely don’t believe anyone believes me when I say this: I was watching Moana, the movie, when it came out, and I was obsessed with baby Moana because her top lip was, like, so cute and pouty. I was like, I need to look like baby Moana. So I originally started grabbing the most random lip liner I could find and over-drawing my top lip so it could look like hers. And then throughout the years, that’s just evolved. It’s become my signature. You’ll never catch me without a lip liner.

I love a good smudgy eye. Weirdly enough, with this haircut, I’ve really enjoyed more grungy, darker eyes because I feel like it balances out the youngness that I love with my short hair. And then a nose contour. My nose contour has been a thing since the beginning of time, and I learned how to nose contour by accident when I put brown on the top of my nose. And I was like, “Oh my God, what did I just do?” And then I was like, “Wait, it’s kind of cute.” I’ve evolved that technique and practiced. Oh, and eyebrows. I love to keep the natural, bushy eyebrows.

Which of the other L’Oréal Paris spokeswomen would you love to work with on a project?

Oh, that’s such a good question. Oh my God. I would love to be in a movie with Elle Fanning. I think that’d be so awesome. I love her. I love her sister. I always have. They both started acting very young, so I can connect with her and relate to her in that way. There are so many cool ones! I mean, I love Reneé [Rapp] as a person. I think she’s so dope, and I would love to see something—I don’t know what we would do—but we’ll find a way to work with each other one day, probably. And then Gillian Anderson’s iconic. There are so many people. That’s the thing with L’Oréal: They have touched on so many icons, and I’d be honored to work with any of them. I’m just glad I get to be under the same umbrella as them in some way.

What is one beauty trend that you’re dying to try—and one that you just will never do?

I’m honestly dying to try bleached eyebrows, although I just said, “Let your eyebrows be.” It’s so cool and fun and impressive for people who can rock the bleached-eyebrow look. So I’ve always wanted to try that. I most likely will do a fake version with, like, concealer and see how it looks. As for a beauty trend I’d never try? I mean, you could ask me four years ago, and I would never wear pink anything, and now it’s my favorite color! So I don’t want to say I'll never try something. Maybe eyelashes? I’ve seen a bunch of crazy, huge eyelashes. I know it’s not really a beauty trend, but just comfort-wise, it makes me want to fall asleep.

What’s the best beauty advice you’ve ever received?

It’s basic, super basic, super cliché, but whatever feels right for you. I think with social media and where I live and so many opinions, so many eyes, so many trends coming in and out, there’s constant pressure on trying to do what’s cool. But if that’s not what feels right to you, then you feel crazy. You’ll never feel good if you don’t feel like yourself. Luckily, I have a great hair and makeup team, and my family and my older brother can tell when I feel uncomfortable, and they can tell when I don’t feel myself. I genuinely think you will feel your best and most beautiful when you look how you want. You feel how you want. That’s why I love wearing baggy clothes, because I know that whatever I’m doing, I’ll be comfortable. I won’t be picking on my shirt or whatever to try and, like, make myself feel relaxed and cool. Sometimes I look back on looks and I’m like, I probably wouldn’t do that now, but I know I felt awesome then, and that is all that matters.

Also, washing your face, a classic. Washing your face at night and in the morning. I will tell you right now, I didn’t do that, like, a week ago because I was getting so tired, and I was falling asleep in my makeup, and it didn’t look very pretty. I started double cleansing now to reverse the damage I’ve done. So please just wash your face, and a makeup wipe isn’t gonna do all of it.

Do you have a favorite all-time beauty look from any film? It doesn’t have to be your own.

God, Jenna, that is a horrible question to ask me! How do I pick? Oh, my goodness. I genuinely have to say Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Audrey Hepburn. That updo—no one will be able to replicate it. It’s just so gorgeous. Barbie had some awesome wigs. And every time I see any clip of the movie, I’m like, Margot’s hair looks so good. I love the shade of blond. That’s very biased, but my answer will probably be Barbie.
