It may be television’s biggest night, but one of pop music’s biggest stars isn’t in on the festivities.

Tonight, Hollywood insiders gathered at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles for the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards, finally taking place after a four-month delay due to last year’s Hollywood strikes. While plenty of A-listers are in attendance, Dua Lipa is nowhere to be seen—despite having attended plenty of major award ceremonies over the past few weeks.

Her absence can be explained by the simple fact that the Emmys recognize achievements in television. And although Lipa’s disco-pop “Dance the Night” track for Barbie has rightfully earned her nods at last week’s Golden Globes and yesterday’s Critics Choice Awards, it does not qualify as a TV project.

But although she is missing the Emmys, it’s likely we’ll still get a chance to see Lipa on a red carpet again before the end of this award season, as she may be nominated for “Dance the Night” at the upcoming Grammys or Oscars.

Lipa’s song plays during a memorable scene in Greta Gerwig’s summer blockbuster, in which the ensemble of Barbie and Ken dolls enjoy a disco-dance party. The singer opened up about crafting the song in a recent interview with IndieWire.

“Essentially, in that [scene], it’s Barbie’s best day ever,” she said. “How do we create a song that tells that story, that shows that sign of resilience? Where when Barbie says, ‘Have you guys ever thought about dying?’ and all the other Barbies look to Stereotypical Barbie for some kind of reassurance of ‘What do you mean? What are you talking about?’ She saves face in a way of, like, ‘Oh no, I’m just dying to dance.’ It’s the way that she shows strength even when she’s feeling otherwise. That was the whole premise of ‘Dance the Night’ as a song, of how to paint that picture of that emotion.”
