Tonight, Taylor Swift made history by becoming the artist with the most MTV Video Music Awards ever—and she made sure to thank someone very close to heart in her last acceptance speech.
Swift closed out the 2024 VMAs this evening at New York’s UBS Arena by accepting the Moon Person for Video of the Year, which honored her work on the video for “Fortnight,” featuring Post Malone. In her speech, the singer gave a rare shout-out to her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
Swift, who directed the “Fortnight” video, recalled a sentimental anecdote from on set. “[When] I’d say cut, and we’d be done with that take, I would always just hear someone cheering, and like, ‘Wooo!’ ” she said, clapping her hands, “from across the studio where we were shooting it, and that one person was my boyfriend, Travis. Everything this man touches turns to happiness and fun and magic. So I want to thank him for adding that to our shoot, because I’ll always remember that.”
Elsewhere in her speech, Swift urged her fans to participate in this November's presidential election. “The fact that this is a fan-voted award and you voted for this, I appreciate it so much,” she said. “And if you are over 18, please register to vote for something else that’s very important coming up.”

Since going public with their relationship in the fall of 2023, Swift and Kelce have spoken more and more about their romance.
On a new episode of his podcast, New Heights With Jason and Travis Kelce, released today, Kelce sent his love to Swift ahead of tonight’s history-making VMAs.
“Hopefully Taylor can walk away with a few—she’s nominated for about 10 of those things tonight,” he said. “Hopefully she can walk away with some Moon Men. Those are always one of the cooler trophies. The space guys.”
