Being a Demna fan isn’t always easy, but Rihanna is doubling-down on her support for the provocative fashion designer.
Last night in Los Angeles, the singer dressed up her laid-back ensemble with a navy-blue parka from Balenciaga, wearing the jacket for the second time in a week. While she previously styled the coat with a fabulous gown and diamonds, she took a more casual approach this time, throwing on a pair of slouchy bootcut jeans from Citizens of Humanity (à la Kendrick Lamar).
Underneath her bomber jacket, Rihanna slipped into a burgundy top with a plunging neckline, which matched the pointy red heels she stepped out in. Naturally, she accessorized with plenty of diamonds and chains, icing out her look with a diamond choker necklace and a gold, diamond-encrusted “R” chain. Knowing Rih, the jewelry could be self-referential, but the initial could also hint toward her beau A$AP Rocky, whose birth name is Rakim Mayers. (Of course, there’s their children RZA and Riot too).
Rihanna rounded out her outfit with a pair of statement sunglasses, opting for a pair of black aviators with orange-tinted lenses. In hand, she carried a small quilted black bag, which took the bag charm trend quite literally with a miniature version of itself attached to its handle.
Her bold lip combination commanded attention too, and was seemingly created with a brown lip liner, cherry-red lipstick, and a clear gloss. We already know that Rihanna loves to layer her fragrances, so it's no surprise the Fenty Beauty mogul would layer up her lip products.
The star’s Balenciaga jacket, however, appeared to be her most important layer. Out of all of Rihanna’s coats—and trust, there are many—her choice to wear this one seems intentional, perhaps acting as a sartorial “see you later” now that creative director Demna is leaving the Spanish fashion house for Gucci. Still, there’s room in Rihanna’s closet for both brands, as she proved by supporting their past logo-centric collaboration.
