We're now mere days away from the Met Gala, perhaps the year's biggest exhibition of statement-making fashion. Where else can you find celebrities dressed as chandeliers or wearing cat costumes alongside those in custom couture and priceless vintage? This year, the gala is being held in celebration of the Costume Institute's show Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, which will explore the history of Black dandyism and its influence on the worlds of fashion and style. Accordingly, the dress code for the party is "Tailored for You."

No doubt we'll see plenty of perfectly-cut suits and handsome accessories, including bow-ties, hats, brooches, and scarves. But many attendees, as they've been known to do in recent years, may take the dress code in an entirely surprising direction, favoring a more subversive or abstract interpretation of the theme.

Whatever the stars wind up wearing for the First Monday in May, it's always fun to make our own predictions for who should—or could—wear what to celebrate fashion's biggest night. Below, here are some of our best guesses (and hopeful wishes).

"My dream outfit for her is Rachel Scott's Diotima, which specializes in slinky, often crocheted pieces hand-made in Jamaica. She has the body for it—and the subversiveness, too."—Lynette Nylander, executive digital director

"Ayo pulls off menswear so well and I just think she'd look incredible in Jerry Lorenzo's sleek, swaggy suiting." —Leah Chernikoff, executive editor

Tracee Ellis Ross in Stephen Burrows

"There is something very 1970s dandy about this Stephen Burrows coat—even if it's technically from 1968. (The man was ahead of his time!) Whether it's the elongated lapel and or the studded decoration, it's of its time period but also feels very now. I would love to see this on Tracee Ellis Ross. She could lean into the masculine/feminine of the piece and style it with her own high-fashion flair—maybe a play on proportions with a huge fedora hat; big, flared, studded pinstripe pants; a button-down shirt; and a tie adorned with all kinds of gorgeous broaches." —Miguel Enamorado, accessories director

Colman Domingo in Dior Men's

"Coleman Domingo wearing a look from Kim Jones's final Dior Men's collection would be brilliant. Domingo's style is beautifully singular but always streamlined. He's a perfect match for Jones's asymmetrical one-button jackets and couture tailoring, and the striking synergy between masculine and feminine in this particular collection really feels like him." —Brooke Bobb, fashion news director

"Tyla is effortlessly sexy. I think she would look amazing in LaQuan Smith’s white maxi skirt suit moment. It has a fun 3D floral pin for some understated dandy-flair." —Nicole Fritton, executive fashion director

"I would love to see Rihanna in this major Christopher John Rogers gown from his Fall 2025 show, perhaps tweaked to have an additional cape moment for a big dress reveal on the carpet. Rihanna always brings iconic moments to the Met Gala red carpet, and I'm here for it." —Jaclyn Alexandra Cohen, senior fashion & accessories editor

Taylor Swift in Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood

"Not that I think she will go, but if she did, I could see her a.) choosing Vivienne Westwood (again) and b.) wearing this plaid suit number to continue the recent plaid/menswear/tailored/matching set thing she's been doing. What does it all mean? Is it an Easter egg? Will she walk with Travis?" Jenna Rosenstein, beauty director

Erykah Badu in Thom Browne

"It's no secret that singer-songwriter Erykah Badu is a major Thom Browne fan—and that she wears it well. I can easily see her in a tailored suit and tie from the designer's Fall/Winter collection, along with an abundance of accessories." —Tiffany Dodson Davis, beauty commerce editor

A$AP Rocky in Thom Browne

"A$AP loves to indulge in any menswear trend, like a funky suit and tie or even a kilt. I would love to see him sporting one of these two suit looks that Thom Browne debuted in his Spring/Summer 2025 collection. Bonus points for the plaid to tie into the dandyism theme! All he needs is some flashy diamonds and a pair of sunglasses, per his usual style." —Katie Intner, beauty market and commerce editor

Anne Hathaway in Ralph Lauren

"I’m an Anne stan through and through and seeing her at Ralph Lauren’s fall 2025 show made me think how fabulous she would look modeling one of the designer’s latest looks, complete with all the glamour and frills worthy of the Met Gala red carpet." —Julie Tong, senior commerce content lead

Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford for Gucci

"Given the theme, I’m expecting to see a lot of suiting and, obviously, fine tailoring on the steps this year. What would be more iconic than Gwyneth Paltrow making her Met Gala return in the exact Tom Ford-era Gucci suit that solidified her fashion icon status back in the ‘90s? I know this option is unlikely, but a social editor can dream!" —Faith Brown, senior social media manager

Lady Gaga in Christopher John Rogers

"Lady Gaga is a student of fashion through and through, and I know that if she attends this year’s Met Gala, she’ll choose a look that honors the theme. Although her career has been defined by extravagant, scene-stealing outfits, when it comes to the Met, Gaga’s ensembles are often unusually understated (at least for her). So for 2025, I’m hoping she chooses this dress from the Christopher John Rogers Pre-Fall 2024 collection, because it offers a touch of drama mixed with refined elegance and it stems from the mind of one of the world’s great Black designers. As an added bonus, the gown even gives off a bit of a gothic edge, which winks to Gaga’s current Mayhem era. Make it happen, fashion gods." —Joel Calfee, assistant editor

Paloma Elsesser in Willy Chavarria

"I fell in love with this look as soon as it hit the runway. I always enjoy seeing indie designers on the Met red carpet, and Willy Chavarria is the New York designer to watch right now. I’d love to see this evening dress with the lapel folded down. I imagine it with one of Chavarria’s signature red flowers in the hair." —Olivia Alchek, senior designer

Tramell Tillman in Jacques Agbobly

"I recently finished the second season of Severance and, like the rest of the world, I've grown fond of the character Mr. Milchik, played by actor Tramell Tillman. It would truly be a dream to see Tillman at the Met Gala this year, and for his first Met, I think he would steal the show in this denim ensemble from designer Jacques Agbobly. Fun fact: One of Agbobly's looks—from his latest collection, 'Bienvenue à Bord'—was chosen to be photographed for the exhibition’s official catalog." —Kristina Ang, social video coordinator

Raye in Saint Laurent

"I'd love to see power vocalist Raye, who weaves together elements of R&B and jazz for music that hits you in the soul, dressed in a sultry powersuit." —Michella Oré, fashion commerce editor

Lewis Hamilton in Wales Bonner

"Grace Wales Bonner’s sleek blend of tailoring and sportswear is a perfect match for this year’s co-chair, Lewis Hamilton. I’d love to see him in this look from her Men’s FW23 collection: a sharp black coat with an off-center closure, a crisp white collar, and a jeweled brooch that nods to regal style but still feels modern. It’s bold, refined, and unmistakably Hamilton." —Jackie Judd, assistant fashion editor

Doechii in Schiaparelli

"Doechii was the crown jewel of the front row during Paris Fashion Week week—a boho princess in a flowing chiffon gown at Chloe and a coquettish darling in plaid at Acne. A can’t-miss every time she graces the red carpet, she accepted her first Grammy win in out-of-the-box confections by Thom Browne. She just consistently delivers, and for this year’s Met Gala, I can’t help but picture her ascending the steps in a brand that embodies wearable art—Schiaparelli. Look 6 from Daniel Roseberry’s latest couture collection caught my eye in particular. The golden waves of fabric read like pure poetry, and I have no doubt Doechii would style it perfectly for fashion’s biggest night of the year." —Jennifer Jenkins, assistant accessories editor
