Mrs. Prada’s style is legendary—period. So whenever she steps out to take a bow at the end of her shows with that inimitable grace that only she has, I am always eager to see what she is wearing. An easy grey knit. The perfect skirt or cropped pant. A beautiful piece of antique jewelry. Her look is often punctuated by the perfect pump—sculptural, poised, and ever so sexy.

This spring, during the shows in Paris, I decided to try a version of the pumps Mrs. Prada designs and typically wears. I bought a pair in navy satin. Sliding them on felt like slipping into something much more special than a go-to shoe. They feel as perfect as they look: sleek and feminine, but without any fussiness. They’re also incredibly versatile. They look as great with a dress as they do with jeans.

And let’s talk about the satin: it’s luminous but not precious—and somehow durable enough to resist to the wear and tear of the city. The best news is the heel clocks in at a cool 85 mm, which means you can wear them all day.

I spotted them at the shows on the stylish Chloe King, fashion market and editorial director at Neiman Marcus. “I treasure—and shop—styles from 5, 10, 15 seasons ago,” she told me. “While at the Milan shows in February, I popped by the Prada store with the intent of purchasing a pair of black satin pumps with silver western top caps from the Spring 2025 collection, but ended up leaving with the same pair in Pepto pink instead. The clash of western and satin in a saccharine shade gave the shoe an irresistible twist you just can't find anywhere else. The modernity of a mid heel and elongated toe kept it all from feeling too camp. I wore the pink pumps immediately with a clashing burgundy tight and prim plaid dress, and later with a printed car coat. And that is precisely their magic.”

The pumps also come in a deep chocolate satin, which are on my wishlist. This weekend, I saw the ever-chic Clémande Burgevin Blachman wearing them perfectly with jeans.

The perfect pump doesn’t try too hard. It doesn’t demand attention. It simply belongs everywhere, with everything—a punctuation mark of great style.
