This Barbie is a Hollywood icon. Margot Robbie made her arrival at the 2024 Oscars tonight in a striking black gown from Versace’s Fall/Winter 2024 ready-to-wear collection. The shimmery piece featured a dramatic rounded strapless neckline and an elegant layered molten detail at the waist. Robbie wore it with Manolo Blahnik pumps and, for some extra sparkle, accessorized with a twisty silver and gold cuff.

The actor’s decision not to wear Barbie pink to Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre—and instead to opt for a sleek black dress—may be her own version of the “revenge dress” Princess Diana’s famously wore in 1994, after then-Prince Charles publicly admitted to cheating on her. As readers know, Robbie was snubbed by the Academy this year, having not received an Oscar nomination for her lead performance in Barbie. Still, the record-breaking film, which she also coproduced, is up for several awards, with eight nods in seven different categories, including Best Picture. The movie is near the top of the nominations list, behind Oppenheimer, Poor Things, and Killers of the Flower Moon.

Robbie addressed the snub during a special Screen Actors Guild screening on January 30, saying simply: “There’s no way to feel sad when you know you’re this blessed.”

Robbie—who coproduced Barbie with husband Tom Ackerley and their company LuckyChap Entertainment—did voice her disappointment at director Greta Gerwig not having been nominated in the Directing category. “Obviously I think Greta should be nominated as a director, because what she did is a once-in-a-career, once-in-a-lifetime thing, what she pulled off, it really is,” Robbie said. “But it’s been an incredible year for all the films.”
