Donald Trump gave his State of the Union–style address to Congress yesterday evening, and as he went on about his plans for his next four years as the United States’s leader, he was interrupted by various acts of protest.

First, Texas congressman Al Green stood up and yelled, “No mandate” at the president, shaking his cane from his seat in the auditorium. After being warned a couple of times by Speaker of the House Mike Johnson to take his seat, Green was removed from the premises—but he maintained his stance.

“I was making it clear to the president that he has no mandate to cut Medicaid,” Green told C-SPAN. “I have people who are very fearful. These are poor people. And they have only Medicaid in their lives when it comes to their health care.”

Green wasn’t the only one who stirred things up from inside the chamber. Other representatives stood up halfway through and walked out in protest, including Rep. Maxwell Alejandro Frost, who wore a T-shirt that bore the message “No Kings Live Here” on the back. It was in reaction to Trump’s recent social-media post in which he likened himself to a monarch and shared an image of a fake magazine cover that had an illustration of Trump wearing a gold crown. “LONG LIVE THE KING,” he wrote about himself.

Congresswoman Nikema Williams wore a tee that read, “Good Trouble, Necessary Trouble” on the front. Meanwhile, some held up signs during Trump’s address that stated, “False” or “That’s a lie!”

Frost, who represents Florida’s 10th congressional district, shared an Instagram post that featured him and the other representatives who protested. “We walked out of Trump’s Joint Address to Congress. My shirt showed Trump an important message: NO KINGS LIVE HERE,” Frost wrote. “In the spirit of student protestors from the Civil Rights Movement, I’m proud to have protested and walked out with many of my colleagues. This is NOT a normal time.”

During his speech, Trump discussed the actions he’s taken since re-entering the Oval Office, covering topics like inflation, immigration, taxes, and more. His remarks, like much of his campaign run, were characterized by sensationalism over fact.
