Succession showrunner Jesse Armstrong has revealed the first look of his upcoming feature length film. Mountainhead will continue to explore similar themes that we saw in his smash-hit TV series, with the movie focusing on the lives of four billionaires.
The trailer sees the tech giants seeking refuge atop of a luxury mountain retreat while the world undergoes a huge economic crisis.
Naturally, Mountainhead has seen a cream of talent sign up to star, with Steve Carell, Jason Schwartzman, Cory Michael Smith and Ramy Youssef all appearing.
And viewers can expect the film to have the same flavour of themes as Succession, with some of the executive producers having previously worked on multi-award winning TV series; Frank Rich, Lucy Prebble, Jon Brown, Tony Roche, Will Tracy, Mark Mylod, and Jill Footlick are all expected to produce the project in some capacity.
Speaking about the film, Armstrong told Deadline: "I’m intrigued to discover whether being around so many brilliant actors and directors on Succession has in any way rubbed off on me."
The film is slated for release on 31 May 2025.
Succession was an international success for HBO and Sky, where the series aired in the UK. Starring Brian Cox, Sarah Snook, Jeremy Strong and Kieran Culkin, Succession observed how the children of an ailing patriarch pitied themselves against one another to take over their father's multi-billion dollar media empire.
Receiving acclaim from audiences and critics, Succession won numerous awards, with Armstrong himself taking home four Emmys for his writing.
The cast of Succession have also since gone on to more wildly successful projects; Strong received an Oscar nomination for his performance of Trump mentor, Roy Cohn, in 2024's film The Apprentice. Snook starred in hugely praised one-woman show The Picture of Dorian Gray, which aired in the West End and transferred to Broadway. Meanwhile, Culkin is now an Academy Award winner, after receiving the trophy for Best Supporting Actor for his role as a free-spirited drifter in A Real Pain.
