With a calendar packed with events and functions, the Princess of Wales has had to curate a reliable style formula over the years. Usually, her wardrobe consists of feminine tailoring, classic silhouettes and even the occasional high-street piece, but her latest outfit contained quite the unexpected sartorial throwback.

In a newly released film, Kensington Palace shared Princess Kate's recent trip to the Lake District, accompanied by a group of scouts and scout chief Dwayne Fields. In addition to highlighting the importance of nature and its significant benefits for our health, the video sees Kate walking through the beautiful and rugged landscapes of the area aptly dressed for the occasion at hand.

For her outdoor pursuit, the Princess of Wales wore a sand-hued Aran knit jumper with a pair of black cargo-pocket skinny jeans, an olive-hued tweed bomber jacket, and to finish off the look, a baker boy cap in a matching green shade.

While the baker boy hat saw popularity in the early Noughties, with the likes of Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Lopez donning the cap, the polarising style quickly fell out of favour come the 2010s. But like other fashion trends of decades past, the baker boy is due for a revival, with Kendall Jenner even embracing the style with a Bob Dylan-esque look earlier this year.

Kate's impact on the fashion cycle is undoubtable, with high-street pieces and jewellery having sold out mere hours after the royal has been reported wearing them. It's something that the royal family has made a concerted effort to move away from; in February, the Sunday Times reported that the Palace would no longer be confirming the details of Kate's outfits during public engagements, with a spokesperson telling the Times; "She wants the focus to be on the really important issues, the people and the causes she is spotlighting,"

"The style is there but it’s about the substance," they continued.

While the Palace might be withholding details of the Princesses latest outfit, we're sure that her latest look will have a marked influence on the baker boy's divisive resurgence.
