What are some benefits of using the best weighted eye masks?
- Stress relief: Adding a bit of weight to certain pressure points on and around the eye area can help relieve tension that can cause anxiety and headaches and ultimately keep you awake. It's similar to getting a soothing massage but with the added benefit of helping you get to sleep.
- Deeper sleep: The combination of blocking out distracting light and the tension relief mentioned above, a weighted eye mask can help your body relax and ultimately put you into a deeper sleep state a lot faster and for longer.
Are weighted eye masks safe?
According to Holliday-Bell, weighted eye masks are safe to use daily. Just be sure to choose one with her recommended weight range of half and three-quarters of a pound. "You don’t want to wear one heavier than about one pound, as it can apply too much pressure to the eyes,” she advises. Weights between half and three-quarters of a pound are ideal for adding just the right amount of pressure.
If you have sensitive skin, take note of the materials used on the mask you choose to prevent any skin irritation from scratchy fabrics. Soft, breathable fabrics, like silk or cotton, will likely be the most comfortable to wear.

Can weighted eye masks make my eyes blurry?
Any eye mask worn for hours, particularly overnight, may require your eyes to adjust initially, but it shouldn't take long. It could be that the weight you're using is a bit too heavy. If you're still experiencing blurriness with a lighter-weight mask or for more than a few minutes consistently after taking a weighted eye mask off, stop using it and check with your eye doctor to be sure it's not a bigger concern.
