Timothée Chalamet is bringing his Bob Dylan–coded wardrobe to the red carpet one more time.
Tonight, the actor arrived at the 97th annual Academy Awards at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre. He continued his Method dressing streak in another red-carpet look that paid homage to the iconic American folk singer, wearing a monochromatic ensemble from Givenchy. It included a tuxedo jacket, high-rise jeans, a collared button-down, and a skinny tie, all awash in the same trendy shade of butter yellow. (The look is possibly a reference to an outfit that Dylan wore back in 2014.)
Chalamet’s performance as Dylan in the James Mangold biopic A Complete Unknown has earned him a nomination in the category of Best Actor. Fellow nominees include Adrien Brody, Colman Domingo, Ralph Fiennes, and Sebastian Stan.
Throughout the film’s press tour and this year’s awards circuit, Chalamet and stylist Taylor McNeill have been curating red-carpet looks that pay homage to Dylan’s distinct sense of style, whether that means re-creating Dylan’s niche outfits—as Chalamet did in a Chrome Hearts leather suit, neon-green shirt, and a bolo tie at the SAG Awards—or channeling the singer’s essence in a custom Gap menswear look.
“He’s less serious than other people in his field in terms of style choices,” stylist Kim Russell told Harper’s Bazaar of Chalamet’s unique approach to red-carpet dressing. “Many other actors take the tuxedo route, which is very serious and signals these ideas of being a professional who only cares about their craft. If you wear anything too outrageous, people won’t take you seriously, but that’s clearly not true. ... It’s important to have someone so very much in the spotlight challenge what traditional menswear looks like.”
