Halle Berry delivered a lesson in Hollywood glamour with her 2025 Oscars look.
Arriving at Los Angeles’s Dolby Theatre, the star made a mesmerizing appearance at the 97th annual Academy Awards. Her dress looked like a mosaic of fractured mirror pieces that was lined with sparkling silver sequins and sheer black panels at the side. She accessorized with an array of diamond jewelry from Pomellato.
Berry is one of tonight’s presenters, joining a star-studded list that also includes Selena Gomez, Miley Cyrus, Penélope Cruz, Emma Stone, and Oprah Winfrey.
Berry last attended the Oscars in 2023 to present the award for Best Actress to Michelle Yeoh. The scene was a significant moment in Oscars history: Berry was the first woman of color and the first Black woman to win an Oscar in that same category back in 2002, while Yeoh became the second woman of color and the first Asian woman to win Best Actress.
During a recent guest appearance on Trevor Noah’s podcast, What Now?, Berry opened up about what it feels like to be the only Black woman with a Best Actress Oscar more than two decades after her trailblazing victory.
“I hope this year, someone stands next to me. This year, I hope it happens. Because I’m tired of occupying that space alone,” she said, per CNN.“I hope this is the year.”
This year, Cynthia Erivo–who has been nominated for her performance as Elphaba in Jon M. Chu’s Wicked adaptation—may possibly become the second Black woman to triumph in the Best Actress category. Whatever the case, Berry still looks at her 2002 Oscars win as “a beacon of possibility. And I do think it served that purpose.”
