Penélope Cruz is ravishing in a sweeping white gown at the 97th Academy Awards.
The Chanel darling looked stunning on the red carpet in a halterneck chiffon dress with a ruched bodice and an airy skirt. Her halter strap flowed behind her into a long train, and her bodice was studded with a line of jeweled buttons. Up top, a yellow-diamond Soleil brooch from Chanel High Jewelry took the spotlight.
Cruz wore sun-shaped gold-and-diamond earrings to match, as well as a Soleil ring and a Comète Aubazine brooch in white gold and diamonds on her hair.
The Spanish actor has had an expansive career in film, and in 2009 she made history when she won an Oscar in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role category for her role in Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
“I grew up in a place called Alcobendas, where this was not a very realistic dream,” she said in her acceptance speech. “And I—always the night of the Academy Awards I stay up to watch the show. And I always felt that this was, that this ceremony was a moment of unity for the world, because art, in any form, is and has been and will always be our universal language, and we should do everything we can, everything we can to protect its survival.”
The actor has returned to the Oscars tonight not to compete for an award but to join the star-studded cast of presenters who will take the stage to delight us with their presence—and deliver awards to the winners—at the ceremony.
Other presenters include some of last year’s acting category winners: Emma Stone (Poor Things), Da’Vine Joy Randolph (The Holdovers), Robert Downey Jr. (Oppenheimer), and Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer).
Oscar winners and nominees from earlier years, like Cruz, will also reemerge as presenters. These are Harrison Ford, Whoopi Goldberg, John Lithgow, Goldie Hawn, Ana de Armas, Scarlett Johansson, Andrew Garfield, Sterling K. Brown, Samuel L. Jackson, Oprah Winfrey, and Halle Berry.
And, performers from this year’s nominated films will also act as presenters. These include Selena Gomez (Emilia Pérez), Lily-Rose Depp (Nosferatu), Elle Fanning (A Complete Unknown), Bowen Yang (Wicked), Margaret Qualley (The Substance), Zoe Saldaña (Emilia Pérez), and Joe Alwyn (The Brutalist).
