The stars have officially made their way to Los Angeles’s Dolby Theatre for the biggest night in Hollywood. But for one of our favorite A-list couples, it’s just another Sunday night.

The red carpet for the 97th annual Academy Awards ceremony has wrapped up—and fiancés Zendaya and Tom Holland were nowhere to be found. While some fans may have hoped for a rare joint appearance from the couple, their absence from the prestigious event comes as no surprise.

Despite delivering critically acclaimed performances in two 2024 movies, Dune: Part Two and Challengers, Zendaya was snubbed from an Oscar nomination this year. (Zendaya last attended the Oscars in 2024, when she presented the award for Best Cinematography.) As for Holland, the actor has had no major film roles in the past year; instead, he spent much of 2024 channeling his efforts into theater, completing a successful run in a London production of Romeo and Juliet.

Even if one of the stars was expected to attend tonight’s ceremony, it’s unlikely that they would have walked the red carpet together. Zendaya and Holland tend to keep their public appearances to a minimum, and they last walked a carpet together to promote their 2021 Marvel movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The couple, who confirmed their engagement earlier this year, have both opened up about prioritizing privacy in their relationship.

“Parts of my life, I accept, are going to be public,” Zendaya said in a 2023 interview with Elle. “I can’t not be a person and live my life and love the person I love. But also, I do have control over what I choose to share. It’s about protecting the peace and letting things be your own but also not being afraid to exist. You can’t hide. That’s not fun, either. I am navigating it more than ever now.”

Similarly, Holland told GQ in 2021, “One of the downsides of our fame is that privacy isn’t really in our control anymore, and a moment that you think is between two people that love each other very much is now a moment that is shared with the entire world.”
