The 97th Academy Awards are taking place in Hollywood tonight, and if there is one person we missed on that star-studded red carpet, it was Rihanna.
The “Diamonds” singer has a lot of things to celebrate this year—developments with her brands Fenty Beauty and Savage X Fenty, new music emerging, her Harper’s Bazaar cover story—but a new film is not one of them. That is why is she was not present at tonight’s Oscars.
The superstar’s partner, A$AP Rocky, is also not nominated for any awards tonight, but the two stillcould have made our night by joining the cast of celebrity performers or presenters during the award show. (Never forget Rihanna’s incredible performance of “Lift Me Up” at the 2023 Oscars.)
Instead, Rihanna and Rocky are likely lying low at home with their two kids, RZA, two, and Riot, one, especially after the difficult month they’ve had with the rapper’s recent felony assault trial (for which he was found not guilty).
“Every decision I make revolves around them, but everything that I do that I love robs me from them,” the singer told Bazaar of her kids, speaking of what engagements and projects she chooses to prioritize now that she’s a mother. “So I have a weird resentment with the things that I love. You almost feel like something is always suffering for you to show up somewhere. And even when you show up there, it’s not 100 percent because there’s something else on the wheel. It’s actually given me a lot more self-guilt. I don’t like letting people down, but I also know that most of that is me letting myself down, which means something has to change, but everything is on the wheel at all times. I have to keep reminding myself that I asked for this, I love this. I try to figure out a balance so that I can feel fulfilled when I show up to something, so I can feel I don’t have any guilt.”
