Jennifer Lopez’s extravagant red-carpet style was nowhere to be seen at tonight’s Oscars ceremony.
The stars have officially made their grand arrivals at Los Angeles’s Dolby Theatre for the 97th annual Academy Awards, but Lopez is notably missing in action. While fans may have hoped for a glimpse of the superstar on Hollywood’s biggest night, there’s actually a pretty straightforward reason as to why we could expect her to skip the show.
Lopez hasn’t attended the Academy Awards since 2019, back when she joined Chris Evans onstage to present the award for Best Production Design. This year, without being nominated or recruited to present an award, there was simply no reason for Lopez to show up tonight.
Still, fans never have to wait too long for another J.Lo red-carpet cameo. She most recently made glamorous appearances in a metallic gold dress at the CAA pre-Oscar party, in a couture set by Stéphane Rolland at the 2025 Grammys, and a plunging red LaPointe gown at the Clive Davis Pre-Grammy Gala.
Lopez previously opened up about what she most looks forward to in the near future, following her split from husband Ben Affleck after two years of marriage.
“It feels lonely, unfamiliar, scary. It feels sad. It feels desperate. But when you sit in those feelings and go, ‘These things are not going to kill me,’ it’s like actually, I am capable of joy and happiness all by myself,” Lopez mused in a conversation with Nikki Glaser for Interview magazine. “Being in a relationship doesn’t define me. I can’t be looking for happiness in other people. I have to have happiness within myself. I used to say I’m a happy person, but was still looking for something for somebody else to fill, and it’s just like, ‘No, I’m actually good.’”
