- I mean, I'm wearing Ariana and Cynthia all-in-one. I'm giving a shout-out. I'm holding space for Ariana and Cynthia. (laughing) Hey, "Harper's Bazaar" this is Zoe Saldaña. And today, we're looking back at some of my fashion moments. This is Fashion Flashback. This was the "Center Stage" premiere, and I'm wearing Prada. The stylist was moi, and it was my birthday. And I remember this because my sisters gave me a cell phone and I never used it. I didn't know how to use it. It was a Nokia thing, and I never know how to use it. Such an important moment. This was my very first time wearing Prada. My very first time going to a premier. My very first time being in a film, and premiering it in New York. Everything about it was just how we say in dance, kismet. Wow, this was the world premier of "Avatar" in London. I was wearing Roland Mouret. At a glance, you would think that it's a fabric that isn't flexible, and yet if you cut it, you know, in the right places, and you create the seams in the right areas, it moves with you. So Roland has a clear understanding on where to create the cuts, and where to create the seams. I've never really met a designer like that. It was just really interesting as it was coming together. And I enjoyed every process of watching Roland, and, you know, discuss with my stylist with Petra on how they were gonna build it around me. I just felt really beautiful when I wore it. Oh, my gosh, this is for the 2010 Academy Awards ceremony. And I was wearing Givenchy. I feel like I had a relationship, a very intimate, personal relationship with this dress. Petra knew from the moment she saw it on the runway that this was the dress that I needed to wear for the Oscars. I remember we were in the middle of this worldwide press junket, and Petra found a way, along with the Givenchy team at the time, to bring the dress wherever I was. There was a moment where I was in Paris and the dress was in Paris, and we tried the dress in Paris, and we had, like, one of its first fittings. And then the dress was in New York. And I remember just looking at my grandma and Petra as they were, like, inspecting every part of that dress. And Petra was, like, looking at my grandma and going, "Do you like it?" You know, 'cause we all knew that she was such an exceptional seamstress. And she was looking at the seams, and looking at every part of the dress. And she would go, "It's really good. It's really good." (laughing) By the time I got to wear it that day, I just remember feeling beautiful. And the colors about this dress, it was just so "Avatar." (laughing) Ooh, okay, 2018, this is a Givenchy look. As a New Yorker it spoke to me, and it made me feel so beautiful, and the simplicity of it. And I remember telling Mara, who does my hair, Mara Roszak, and Vera Steinberg, who's done my makeup, telling them, I want the little as possible on my hair and makeup. I just wanna be me. And I remember feeling my most beautiful, and my most authentic self. And that was the beginning of, like, a breakthrough in my life where it's 2018, I'm a mom of three boys. I am owning sort of, like, the time and the space that I'm in, and I'm having a clearer picture of who I wanna be at all times. I really felt confident and very beautiful. Oh, my God, this is the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony. And I'm wearing Miu Miu. Petra was definitely wanting to channel Old Hollywood. I was too busy having an out-of-body experience to make decisions for myself. And she definitely took the wheel on this, and so did Vera and Mara. And I was very happy because I was just trying to write my speech, and make sure that I didn't leave anybody out. I think this was around the time where I started to also just ask for comfortable shoes. (laughing) In the early 2000s, like, I remember Petra and I walking down the cobble streets of London and Paris, in, like, these Louboutins, they were, like, four inches high, five inches high. And I remember thinking, oh my God, I am unstoppable. I will never die. And then four years later, married with three boys, just looking at certain shoes that looked painful would make me shed tears. We do extensive research on what are comfortable heels, like, for instance, these (laughing) are still high, Gonia. This is the 2019 Met Gala, and I'm wearing Michael Kors. He's such a delicious New Yorker, oh, my God. So I says to her, I says to her. I just love the way he talks. And he tells the best stories, by the way. And I like when he and Petra sort of, like, pick these outfits for me whenever I do wear Michael Kors, because I tend to have a lot of fun. Lately in the last years of my life, I've been really experimenting with colors like brown tones, honey, amber, cinnamon, Cimarron. I like these colors, they really speak to me. And I like being adventurous within these colors, like adding purple tones. I'm not afraid of color. You know, my mom is right, colors are beautiful, because I was always, like, black and white, black and white, black and white, and a tone of red. And my mom, who's such a Caribbean woman, she's always like, "Well, orange, and coral, and yellow, and aquamarine." In my younger years I was always like, oh, shush woman. I will never wear such insanely loud colors. And now I am all about colors, too, so thank you, mom. - [Producer] Do you feel like you embodied camp? - I fucking do believe I was embodying camp. This was disco camp, okay? This look is a Schiaparelli look for the premier of "Avatar" in Los Angeles for "The Way of Water." I think this is the first time that I wore Schiaparelli to a red carpet. I don't wear hair pieces that often. I tend to be a little more natural, but now that I'm getting older, I'm just a lot more open to experimentation. And Mara brought this piece that was kinda like a little bang piece, and it was very Audrey Hepburn-esque of her, and I loved it. So this really dictated then what we were gonna do with the makeup, and Vera felt inspired to kinda keep it super simple with the eyes and just do these lips that were great, but it all started with this dress. There's just something really simple and very complex about this dress, and also very elegant, and something that's very young about this dress, I have to say. It felt comfortable. It was very structured, but also very loose. I loved it. Oh, my God. Okay, so this was for the premiere of "Guardians of the Galaxy Volume Three" in Paris. I'm wearing Armani Privé here. I was shooting "Emilia Pérez" post Oscars 2023 for "Avatar Way of Water." And then I jumped straight into "Guardians of the Galaxy Volume Three" press, while shooting "Emilia Pérez." I'd never felt more fortunate, just grateful to know that as an artist I was working, and celebrating my work at the same time, and still taking chances 'cause "Emilia Pérez" was a chance. This dress was just so beautiful. And it reminded me of the (indistinct) You know, those porcelain clowns that your grandmother, everybody's grandmother used to have in their home. I remember I did break one of these harlequin clowns, and she was so upset with me. So getting to wear this dress (laughing) felt like I was redeeming myself. I've always been a sucker for pastel pink and a green put together. It's just beautiful. They're just romantic. I mean, I'm wearing Ariana and Cynthia all in one. I'm giving a shout-out. I'm holding space for Ariana and Cynthia. (laughing) I won my very first Golden Globe in this dress, and I'm very proud of this design 'cause I felt like I was a part of choosing what I wanted to wear. Petra found this beautiful look from an old collection of Anthony's, and they together chose the fabric and the look, and the style of it, and then we put together the hair and the makeup. Everything about this look was me. A much more hyped version of me in my dreams, but it was still me. And then the cape, there was a cape that Petra insisted on the look having. And it was sort of like an ode to the '80s, Yves Saint Laurent. And Anthony really was super stoked about doing that. And there was something about putting that cape over my arms and working it on the red carpet, that just made the look almost surreal for me, at least. I felt great. You dream of these moments for so long. You just don't like to admit it 'cause you don't like to be that vulnerable, but I think that every artist, every actor, dreams of that moment, and then all of a sudden that moment comes true. I'm just grateful that the dress was comfortable. I could've been naked. (laughing) I wasn't even in the room. Thank you guys for just spending this time with me.
