We’ve broken down the best sneaker color trends you’ll be sure to see everywhere this year. Plain white leather sneakers are no longer dominating womenswear. Instead, high doses of color have taken center stage, both on and off the runway. The spring/summer 2025 runways were packed with retro runners at Miu Miu, ballet sneakers at Simone Rocha, and high-tops at Loewe, all with an undeniable shift toward bolder colors this season.
One major takeaway was the return of metallic sneakers. “Lighter colors like ivory always do well because of their versatility,” says Brigitte Chartrand, vice president of womenswear buying at Ssense and Everything ElseTM. “However, metallics, although sometimes too flashy and eye-catching, can serve as a neutral really nicely.” Her favorite pick from spring/summer 2025 was the Dries Van Noten gold sneaker in a vintage runner silhouette. “That color and style combination felt exciting to us,” she says. “Anything textured in an unexpected way can elevate a look without trying too hard.”
Retro sneakers remain high on the hit list, and all of these low-cut runners make the perfect blank canvas for bold colors with a certain nostalgic feel. “Miu Miu and Dries Van Noten are certainly leading the resurgence of the runner silhouettes that nod to ’70s gym-class style,” Chartrand explains. “The slim, vintage-inspired sneakers like the Adidas Tokyo have been spotted in street style and paparazzi photos. That slimmer style has really taken off and comes in so many colors and textures, like collegiate reds and blues to gold and black.”
Shiny metallics and collegiate brights are just the start. Keep reading to discover the best sneaker color trends of 2025 and how to shop them all.
1. Collegiate Red
Red has definitely picked up steam over the past few seasons, especially in the ready-to-wear space, and is full-on trending in footwear for spring. “We also saw a lot of collegiate colors on the runway—primary reds and blues,” Chartrand says. Lean into the retro appeal of the bold and bright cherry hue with retro-inspired silhouettes, from Vans and Nike to the Taekwondo shoe from Adidas, a hit with the street-style set. These pair perfectly with everything from your favorite suit to a white T-shirt and jeans.
2. Shiny Metallics
“Metallics are here to stay—whether it’s an all-over metallic shoe like the gold Dries Van Noten runner or something with shiny accents alongside the tweed elements, like this Valentino Mary Jane sneaker,” Chartrand says. We are wholeheartedly standing by this trend. You’ll find throwback styles galore from heritage brands like Adidas and Gola, in both silver and gold, as well as luxe, designer takes from Bottega Veneta. For those who don’t want to go all-out, Autry’s white low-top sneaker is trimmed with subtle hits of glimmer, to dip your toes in.
3. Mint Green
Nothing feels fresher than pastels in the springtime, after wearing black for months on end, and we are seeing the rise of mint green in the sneaker category. Whether subtle color-blocked trims catch your eye or monochromatic styling is more your speed, this microtrend is really starting to roll out as the warmer weather hits, so jump on it quickly. There are plenty of nostalgic nods surrounding this refreshing color, but mint actually lends more diversity in silhouettes. From the sneakerhead-approved chunky Salomons to Reebok’s dad sneaker, these are all simply delicious.
4. Chocolate Brown
We’ve seen brown everywhere lately, from mocha mousse, named Pantone’s 2025 color of the year, to the ever-trending brownie batter. Sneakers are the easiest way to take this warm tone into the spring/summer season. Toteme’s sporty, quilted kick is high on our editor-approved wish lists, while the designer-splurge option definitely comes from the Row, whose distressed Mica is fail-proof. Still, you can find an affordable suede pair from Mango and a classic canvas from Vans to help lighten up your warm-weather wardrobe.
5. Azure Blue
All things blue are definitely en mode, and while royal blue has certainly been in the limelight, we are currently mesmerized by this particular shade of azure: It’s bright, it’s bold, and it’s unexpected. Designers seized the moment, painting their own sneaker classics with the rich hue. Loewe’s Flow Runner and Tory Burch’s Phoenix both got the spring treatment, while Veja’s Volley and Puma’s Speedcat really stood out within the true sneaker brand options. Consider styling yours with another trending color, butter yellow, as seen above. The unlikely pairing really works together and can even be worn by minimalists.
6. Subtle Sand
For those who can’t quite face the idea of vibrant color, these sand-toned colors were a huge success on the street. Inspired by the suede pairs that walked the Miu Miu runway, the subtleness of this light camel feels modern and different enough to be noteworthy, while still complementing a minimalist-friendly wardrobe palette of white, black, and gray essentials without too much of a splash. Wear with everything from khaki separates and your favorite trench coat to floral dresses and a ribbed sock, inspired by the street-style elite.
