The royal family and heads of state from around the world gathered today at Westminster Abbey in London, to say a final farewell to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Britain's longest-serving monarch. The Queen died peacefully at her home in Balmoral on 8 September, and has been lying-in-state at Westminster Hall in the days leading up to her state funeral service.
Alongside members of the royal family and international leaders, the general congregation (around 2,000 people) was made up of representatives from Her Majesty's patronages, as well as 200 people who were recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours this year – including those who made extraordinary contributions to the response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Thousands more people also lined procession routes from Westminster Hall to the abbey, and then again as the coffin made its way from central London to Windsor Castle, for the final committal service.
