Everywhere you look in fashion lately, you can see Dutch model Jill Kortleve—and her impact. Back in the autumn/winter 2020 season, she made history in Milan as one of the first curve models ever cast by Fendi for its show; then, in Paris, she had another milestone moment as the first curve model Chanel had cast in a full decade. Now, she’s a regular on Fashion Month’s most anticipated runways, from Alexander McQueen to Mugler to Tory Burch. The credentials keep on coming. Today, Kortleve was revealed as one of the faces of Victoria’s Secret’s holiday 2023 campaign alongside Hailey Bieber, Imaan Hammam, and holiday season matriarch Mariah Carey.
All of those jobs have also had an impact on Kortleve—one she feels every single day. “Working as a model definitely influenced my style a lot,” Kortleve told Bazaar. “I was never much of a fashion girlie growing up, but working in fashion made me realize what a big impact clothing can have on a person.”
The years Kortleve has spent walking up and down catwalks and posing for campaigns have taught her to take a “less is more” approach to getting dressed. “The more I experimented with my style, the more I realized it felt like I was overdoing it and forcing myself to be a version of myself that I’m not anymore or never was,” she reflected. “For myself, I prefer to have a more low-key kind of clothing style and try to be less influenced by all the temporary trends we see in fashion all the time.”
Kortleve’s style is less swayed by the collections she sees backstage at shows than by the people she encounters out in public while traveling between fashion capitals. She explained: “Sometimes I feel like [the] internet ruined individuality … so that is why I love seeing the difference in the way people dress in every country. Even if it’s just small details.”
Ahead, Kortleve shares the Lucky 13 items that make her wardrobe, beauty routine, and home uniquely her own.
